  • Should I major in IT or MIS?

Hello everyone, I am new here, sorry if this is the wrong section well I am currently a student in MIS at Sagesse University, however I did not like the curriculum of my school because it's heavily concentrated with business courses (I don't really like Business). Now I am wondering if I should change my major to IT even thought I suck pretty bad at math, OR stick with MIS and learn more programming, scripting and other tech skills on my own? Your thoughts?
What do you mean by IT? Computer science?
I will start in MIS also next month, I would also like all of your advices if I really should do mis or computer sciences.
-Academically: If You have a career path to purse coding / software development , you need to shit to computer science , but caution to to be taken: math courses you will take , advance and tough if you do not like math. Theory of computation , logic , binary , computer graphics , logic designs/gates etc.. are all related to Math. Also, you will take courses in CS such as Data Structures that are heavily dependable on algorithms , binary tress, search optimizations etc.. which are heavily dependable on mathematical logic.

-Practically/Work Place: MIS is very good in applying for programming positions , in condition that you need to consume a good bulk on learning / self teaching / self development for coding , programming languages and databases. For example , in a job interview when you are asked about some coding technical questions and whether you are MIS or CS , the end results are correct responses. But the added value in MIS , is being a cross-functional candidate who merges between CS coding knowledge ( academically + self development) and business orientation on the another hand (finance and accounting mainly). In MIS , you can concentrate your electives on Coding like OO , Java , some Networking is an added value too.

- To excel in the coding world , whether CS or MIS , technical certifications are recommended (MCSD , PMP, CISA , etc..)

Personally , I applied the Formula of BSc in Applied Computer Science followed by an MBA (Finance/Strategic Planning) , and this decision has been very fruitful in my career journey.

Good Luck Mate
I would say stick to Computer Science or "IT" - in real life, you are less likely to be doing advanced math work all the time and if you were required to do it (in case you were working with data science or stuff, companies usually have data scientist or math people who have to make the math checkout at the end of the day, so you will get all the help you need)

Another way to go around it is to calculate how many grades will depend on math, what is their weight relatively to the total and see if you can make it.

Ask the teachers to sit on a math class and see how it sounds.

A last alternative is to take the business classes, learn about this stuff because it is important in case you want to do your own startup in the future and then have extra curricular studies in computer stuff or learn yourself the technology or participate in bootcamps or free programs like this http://sefactory.io/

Good luck figuring this out. Not easy!

Hey guys,
Im starting in MIS, in haigazian .
Does anyone have the books of the major who can pass them on? (if the books are same in all universities?)
