hey guys ,
I am looking to build a rig of my own,
last pc was a dual core, NVidia gt 440, 4gb ram so I am really not up to date at all,
I did my search, and here is what I am looking for :
Intel® Core™ i5-4590 Processor
NVidia GTX 970 or above/ AMD Radeon R9 390 or above
8gb ram ddr4
ssd 120 gb
msi motherboard supporting above parts
case with enough cooling
I need your opinion about these picks, also you probably noticed I am kinda picking medium price items
I need opinions mostly about cpu and motherboard, I realy cant tell if newer cpu is better or not, cause newer cpu sometimes has lower frequency rate and I cant figure if its better to have higher frequency or its affected by other factors, also I read if the motherboard bus isn't fast enough for the cpu , cpu speed doesn't matter, so I want something that can support this i5 or faster one but still with good price, I am not looking for sly, yet if its an option it will be better, and I am looking to double the ram later, so I am gonna need 2 or more ram bus, I also want to know if there is something special I should add to these parts, cooling system, led design, etc...
for people willing to sell any of the parts listed also please post your price
your help is much appreciated, thank you
Satfoun
Well, i can tell you that a super computer cost me around 3k
As any other user here, we all get our pc parts mostly from pcandparts.com
They have some builds already listed with their final prices, including a monitor
http://pcandparts.com/basesys.htm
And u can also change a part or a two accoding to your options and budget
If you are willing to pay 3k, i will share my build specs.
However with 2k$ you can get a supercomputer

There is something that I don't understand: HyperX Predator 16GB (4×4). Isn't 4×4=32GB? I know the mistake is from pcandparts but by logic 188$ for 16GB is wayyyy overpriced. I'm sure they meant 32GB.

Thanks for the quick replies guys...
well 3k is quiet too much.. i understand that making a super computer is quiet expensive and there is always something you can upgrade.... that is for sure...
but i am not aiming for top computer... i want something fast yet affordable..something that is good for games and graphics yet at average price
kapitan example is quiet nice but i am not gonna buy 980 ti or that 200$ ram... will exceed my budget that is under 1000$
I already checked pcandparts.com before posting this thread and i actually saw the i5 6500 but what i was wandering about is that i5 6500 has lower frequency than the i5 4590. ... i wanna know if it means 4590 faster than 6500 or opposite...also they both share a 6mb cache

I need opinion about the i5 guys ... also about the VGA i am really thinking about amd rather than nvidia cause of better prices and higher memory actually am thinking R 390 or R 390x but if nvidia my options are limited to the gtx 980
And as for the motherboard 90$ is within the range so i might go for the msi b150 suggested by kapitan... if anyone has similar option at better price please feel free to suggest
my real intention from this project is to make a VR capable super computer
and by the way ... a 3k$ computer is way pass a super computer title.. thats probably mega or giga computer :)

I5 was "born" for every kind of game in my opinion, it always the sweet spot for every game. And you surely don't need those rams, 32gb is way more than the required to play even the most demanding games. PCANDPARTS will soon be stocking the hyperx savage DDR4 rams I got its advertisement when I was checking the weekly offers from pcandparts and they are pricing the 8GB at 75$. And for AMD cards, no one can beat them in term of price/performance ratio. But they will be A BIT slower than their NVidia counterparts and consume more power. But for the price, no ome can beat them.

only 1k?! :o
Whoa i guess that would not be sufficient for a super computer
You do realise the Gtx980 alone costs around 700$
Well anyway, here is my 3k Build haha
Cpu: Intel i7 4790k
Mobo: ASUS Maximus VII HERO
CPU cooler: Thermaltake Frio extreme (I luv it )
Case: Corsair C70 Vengeance WHITE, the black was not in stock, and i dnt regret getting the white at all
RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast Savage 2*8Gb module 2400MHZ
Graffx Card: ASUS Strix Gtx980 Dc2Oc
PSU: Corsair RM 650 Gold FUlly modular
Storage: Samsung EVO 850 250Gb + WD green 3Tb
Monitor: Viewsonic 22'' LED screen
UPS: MGE Eaton 1500VA
LED lights modding too
i know i know i should have gotten a 1440p monitor, but i am happy with this one, besides i have a LG 50'' LED 3D tv and a 5.1 surround system, for gaming night with friends
AMD consumes ALOT more power than the nvidia cards, and produce ALOT of heat
I had the ASUS R9 290, its max power consumption estimated up to 300W, whereas my 980 max consumption 150-175.
Besides, both fans are off during idle, and only one start spinning after it reaches 65C, and basically when i am playing witcher 3 or project cars or GtaV, the card does not even reach 70C. i only saw it once reach 71C and it was during a GPU stress test
You should keep that in mind about AMD cards
Ohh and did i mention the R9 turned out to be defective?! That is why i got the 980 and decided to be stress relieved from such problems
The only reason people get AMD cards is for mining, Bitcoin currency which i doubt any one care about here in Lebanon.
Been and AMD user for 7 yeears

Actually, with the 300 series, they're faster than their Nvidia counterparts, for example, the GTX 960 gets obliterated by the R9 380 at the same pricepoint, and so does the GTX 970 when compared to the R9 390, Nvidia only wins at the $650 pricepoint and only in single-GPU setups, the Fury X takess the lead in dual-GPU due to CrossFire scaling so much better than SLI. Now on the power usage side of things, it won't put an extra $1000 on your monthly bill, at worst (24/7 100% usage), it may put an extra 300$ per annum, and I'm sure you won't run it 24/7 at 100% usage, so it'll only really add $10-20 on your bill per annum.
Spot on on the i5 part, though.

Actually supercomputer means multi-million dollars computer, with hundreds of Nvidia Teslas, AMD Opterons, Intel Xeon Phi or IBM PowerPC processors.

yeah true fact about super computers
But you forgot that they have quantum processors too

You just cannot fit anything above an R9 380 (when it gets back in stock, hopefully) in an under-$1000 budget in Lebanon, in the US you could've fitted an R9 390 (PowerColor or XFX), an SSD (something like an OCZ ARC 100 or Crucial BX100) and an unlocked i5.
MrClass
Super computer for 1K USD? Next time put in the subject gaming computer with 1K budget. That ain't a super computer. Even barely qualifies as a high end gaming rig

Thank again for the replies.. actually i was never a fan of pc gaming cause of the constant need to upgrades, i like gaming on console,
yet for the upcoming generation of tech.. virtual reality would be the next step, and after going through all reviews and specs, it would be better to go with oculus with an open community and many free apps and games than to go with ps4 morpheus with close community and limitation to sony store, in addition oculus is expected to be the best vr tech tool that is why i am looking to make this computer...
about hat many said concernig the budget ... trust me guys... for many many ... many people ... oc i5 with an amd 290 gfx and 8gb ram is really a super computer ... but for you guys with big passion enthusiasm for computers i know a 2k rig wont be up to your expectation... therefore i understand your critisism yet i still want help making this computer with around 1k$ budget
Kaptain your the one most helping... i saw the last example and its not enough for oculus here are their requirements:
NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD 290, Intel i5- 4590, and 8GB RAM so graphic wise gtx 960 wont be suffisant also guys i am asking for impossible... i wont mind paying 100$ more ... it is expected but if i can do this under 1k$ it will be great... yet oc an i5 will add 1 or 2 more years in performance efficiency so i wont mind paying extra for an unlocked cpu and better mobo

You can always take a loan and pay it back!!!
Actually....i guess if you buy a full system from pcandparts u can, t2astou , but i dnt knw how long the period and what are their rates
I never planned to build the pc i own today, and yet i dont regret it at all
For me , it is simple, you have to get the best for what you use the most, and that is, my bed, and my pc

If you really want an unlocked core i5, wait for christmas, they should be stocking a lot of new components for christmas, including the new core i5 6600k.
