Hello,
My budget is $1100 expandable to $1300 if worth it.
Any chance of finding a decent laptop and avoid being ripped off?
The laptop will be used in CAD-drawing, web surfing and multimedia playing.
Also, some gaming in medium settings would be fine.
My laptop preferences: New (not refurbished), OS Windows, GTX850+, FHD screen, 1TB HDD (SSHD would be a plus)
As for the cpu, I'm confused between going after power and choosing a Haswell quad core i7, or after battery life and less heating, with the recent dual core 5500u i7, or should I wait for the Broadwell quads as they might probably assure power and better battery life?
After some search in the Lebanese stores online, here is what I got:
HP: pros: attractive, good builds, warranties, ability to find parts replacements in the market. cons: screen displays
Dell: cons: expensive
Acer: pros: some nice machines. cons: unfortunately the ones within my preferences are out of budget.
Lenovo: pros: decent components for lower prices. cons: weak chassis and build (cf. reviews)
Toshiba: pros: none. cons: Higher prices than HP, for lesser components
Samsung: Let them stick to smartphones, their prices are even higher than Macs
Asus: Even the ROG store isn't official, and there are a lot of complaints about stuff not being new
MSI: I would have liked to find a decent one, Abroad, they have the best combinations CPU/VGA/etc/price
Shopping from abroad: pros: cheaper. cons: too risky (if dead components etc.), most brands not having official partners (for international warranties) in Lebanon.
The best shops that I found were pcandparts and microcityweb.
The worst... well almost all the rest, but cctechgroup won that award for me, with that horrible wooden Asus probably made from Noah's ark wood.
I would like to benefit from your experiences and know more about laptop brands and the issues that you might have had.
Cheers.
