I have the X3000 which can be used as both modem/router, the UI isn't bad, but for it's price, it should've been a better overall router. Got it for $155 back then. I am thinking of getting the Billion 7800dxl.
Feedback for IDM
Am thinking of buying whatever router has Broadcom chip with 3 Antennas coz I live in a villa need range.H.S wroteI have the X3000 which can be used as both modem/router, the UI isn't bad, but for it's price, it should've been a better overall router. Attenuation is related to distance, the higher the bigger the distance :)TechXero wroteDistance from CO matters too. Plays a big role. Further you are the worse the connection.H.S wroteThe CO is already equipped with speeds higher than 4mbps, a friend of mine already have a 4mbps (old plans) before the upgrade, we're from the same CO. Some of them, their CO really isn't equipped with such speeds, but mostly it is due to Ogero refusing to give you your desired speed simply because they can, unless you know someone from their side.wollyka wroteTheorically you could get 4 Mbps easily. However, I have seen people with better stats than you (down Attenuation in the 30) and they refused to give them 4mbps. I think it also depends on the CO
Buy any modem with a broadcom chip and don't use it as router. I have a Linksys X1000 as a modem (also i have the Technicolor from IDM), both have similar stats. For the router, i have an Asus Ac68u, extremely powerful (dual core), i can stream HD movies from PC to TV using chromecast and surf the internet on multiple devices on the same time and the router doesn't bulge..
Those dual modem/routers are moderate at best.
Yeah well so far I have bought 3 routers can't keep buying. Need something cheap. And don't like to have 2 devices when I can have one. I too can stream movies from my HTPC to iPad easy. Am talking 20gb+ BluRay rips here on my TP-Link W8940 router modem. I only have issues with disconnections. Every now n again.
Honestly after the big disappointment from IDM today, it is really not worthy getting a fancy one.
Exactly my point. With IDM shitty support, I lost trust in them. And since I do not understand Network stuff I am in quite a pickle, dunno what to buy or, if I need a new router at all.H.S wroteHonestly after the big disappointment from IDM today, it is really not worthy getting a fancy one.
Well the router is for your LAN and wireless coverage (internal use), if you have like me multiple PCs, NAS, TVs and a few devices all connected you will need a reliable fast one. The modem, i don't care that much if it is stable and give me good stats :). That's why i prefer to have two. All the hybrid routers/modems cannot keep up if you want to use more than 100 Mbps internally, they will lag due to their poor cpu.
I agree. Except I have my phone, my iPad Air, my laptop, my HTPC and main PC connected. I do notice a bit of lag but that don't explain why my Router/modem decides to switch from 2M to 736kbps during download time at 11pm to 7am. Once I reboot it it goes back to 2M. Been happening for last few nights. My router isn't from IDM I bought it myself. It's TP-Link TD-W8970. One of the best I could find here.wollyka wroteWell the router is for your LAN and wireless coverage (internal use), if you have like me multiple PCs, NAS, TVs and a few devices all connected you will need a reliable fast one. I did call IDM to complain, it hasn't been fixed yet. Been 2 months now still no solution. They keep blaming my cables which I can't do anything about.
Am sick of this dunno what to do.

I got this reply from IDM
However, I was checking my modem stats and I got this ------ DSL Information --------
DSL Driver Version: A2pD035m.d24c
DSL VPI/VCI: 8/35
DSL Status: Up
DSL Mode: ADSL_2plus
DSL UpStream Rate: 894Kbps
DSL DownStream Rate: 8798Kbps
Down Up
DSL Noise Margin: 27.5 21.9
DSL Attenuation: 13.0 8.7
DSL Transmit Power: 19.1 12.1
Weird?
My account at idm still shows 4mbps
Edit: my download is still at 490 KB/s (same what i was getting before)
Kindly be informed that your account will remain 4M 50 until we get the confirmation from the Ministry to proceed with the upgrade to 8M-100.

The modem bandwidth isn't necessary what you are getting , there's other limits from their end , it looks like they did it to see if your line can handle it , but they have no bandwidth to upgrade everyone, they are still waiting for the ministry (same with cyberia)wollyka wroteI got this reply from IDMKindly be informed that your account will remain 4M 50 until we get the confirmation from the Ministry to proceed with the upgrade to 8M-100.

You must live inside the CO :P
Actually, I am less than 1 km away. Anyway, the stats don't mean anything, the company that my brother works at in down town is less than 50 M away from the CO and he gets 6 Mbps at best from their 8 Mbps connection!
Is your CO close to Beirut? I'll be happy with 6 M on an 8 M connection!
I'm physically 1.1 km away from my CO

Hey there.
My friend just passed by gifting me a new router. The TD-W8961ND it's way smaller n slower than my TD-W8970 but seems to work much better for DSL. My attenuation went down from 52.2db to 46.0db/31db and SNR margin 25.5/16.6. And connection seems way more stable.
It seems that the speed of router doesn't affect DSL. I mean faster=better ain't true for DSL. Hmm... Now am no Network specialist but dunno how to use my TD-W8970 as a router to access movies. I want to take advantage of Gigabit LAN on it.
First world problems. (Weird Al new Song)

I am in Beirut.
That's why I use a modem separately and a router for Lan and wireless. I found it to be more stable since the load is reduced on the modem

Techxero, put the new router in bridge mode connected to the phone and disable Wi-Fi. Plug the old one to the new one via ethernet and configure the ppoe connection and wifi.
That way the new router will function as DSL modem while the old one will function as a Wi-Fi router
