That's still without tax. It's WAY above what you should be paying for such specs.
The RAM is too expensive. You could get
this and it'd arrive for less than 140 TAX INCLUDED, especially if you order parts with it (it'll be closer to 120 arrived):
The SSD is just too expensive. Does he need an SSD? If not, drop the SSD. If he does, try to aim for the 120GB models if he doesn't need 240GB. Alternatively, a
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD is newer and beats this thing and costs less at Amazon, would arrive for a similar price to this with tax (including tax). The
128GB model is also a good choice.
I'm not too sure about this case. There are cheaper cases that might be as good or better, and more expensive cases that are MUCH better. If you're going all out on a case, get the Cooler Master HAF-X for $245 TTC from MicroCity, and if you want to save, get a Thermaltake V4 Black Edition (though be warned there's no cable management in this thing).
The power supply is TOO expensive for what it is. Even shipping a PSU from
Amazon would get you a cheaper, better PSU.
Try to aim for Z77 motherboards. Check out the ASRock Z77 Pro Extreme4 as well for a FANTASTIC budget motherboard (a friend uses it for 24/7 rendering on an i7 3770, some people OC their i5s higher than on expensive motherboards on this one), and the
ASUS Maximus V Formula if you're grabbing a 3770K and going all out.
The graphics card, I wouldn't go with ASUS on 7970s, they had a few design issues where the heatsink wasn't mounted properly on the card, and that gave people soaring VRM temperatures. I think that was the TOP edition only, but anyways, $625 is just too much for a 7970 and it's been listed there forever, so it might be (much) older stock.
Again, Amazon gives you excellent 7970s for $400, and 7950s for $300. One could go dual 7950s if the rendering supports dual cards and scales
PROPERLY on them. Alternatively, even 2 7970s would be very very nice, and you can go for any of these 4 choices (single 7970, single 7950, dual 7950s, dual 7970s) if you balance your budget better.
