Dear Members,
So i just got a new 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theatre System.
With its inbox cables provided, i hooked it up to my PCs Gigabyte Z77X Board just fine, works very awesome!!
Here is my trouble/question that i have for you:
Now i have a Receiver hooked to my TV via HDMI, what i want, is to hear the sound of the receiver through my surround system.
My TV also has a SPDIF out, so i figured , that is a way to do it.
My question is, how does SPDIF work ?
Are there any kind of SPDIF cables, with one end that i can plug it into the SPDIF out of the TV and at the other end, 6 audio jacks to hook it up to the woofer ?
Perhaps my proposed idea does not work, or such cables do not exist, I do not know.
So that is why i need your solution guys. Any ideas !?
shant
i think it would be easier if you upload a clear shot of all the plugs from the rear of your tv

Here it is

Your TV doesn't support surround sound.
Flakk
Can you provide a pic of the back of your receiver ?
now most receivers dont output 5.1 surround sound, you can still hook up 2 channels from your surround system.
AVOlio
@Flakk there is just HDMI and AV output from the reveiver.
And yea i tried only 2 channels.. But i wanted it to work 5.1 channels. Freaky while watching Barca matches.
So what is that Digital Audio Out for ?!

You can use an external amplifier with 5.1 surround sound support.
You will have to use the Digital out, connecting to the digital in of the amplifier... Since the amp use DAC (Digital to Analogue converter)
Analogue = Physical
Digital = electric pulses or codec

If supported... But your box doesn't support SPDIF output i guess ... Can be software implemented, similar approach but not the same (quality)

im not sure if the hdmi input sends the sound to your optical, try using rca output from your receiver to your speakers, that should work, tho only limited to 2 channels
AVOlio
Hey Guys, i figured it out finally.
With those 6 channel inputs, 2 of them belongs into Aux (which means those 2 ports only, can be used to another 5.1 surround system) so i plugged in my headphone out jack from the TV to the Aux ports, and voila, i have 5.1 channel sound from my TV/Receiver.
Cant wait for the match tonight ! I wonder who the commentator will be !
Oh by the way, i just noticed in the quick post section, a note, like, AVOlio avoid useless posts Bla bla ...
It would be so funny if it was meant only for me, like only AVOlio.
But im sure it is shown on every user before writing anything. lol
I dont know why i mentionned that, bla bla xD

avolio,im having a hard time imagining your setup, if you connected 2 cables only then you have two channels, each cable is one channel, if you have 5 speakers then i think you should have 5 connections+ base if im not mistaken
AVOlio
Yes. I have 6 Sound In plugs on the Woofer. 5 for the satellites and 1 for the woofer itself.
But 2 of these 6 plugs are Aux.(and from what i understood from reading articles about 5.1 channels etc... is that Aux lets you add another device to produce 5.1 channel surround sound)
So i just plugged in the regular Headphone out from my TV in those 2 plugs, and i have 5.1 channel coming out from the Receiver/TV.
Note that when the TV cables are plugged into those 2 jacks, the sound of the PC is not working at all, zero channels.
I have to remove those 2 of the TV, and replug the 2 cables coming from my Motherboard, and then the 5.1 of my PC returns.
So every time i want to switch the 5.1 sound channel between the TV/Receiver and the PC, i have to switch those cables into the Aux plugs.

i think you have 2.1 sound spread into 5 speakers, so you're basically getting 2.1 but with more speakers, at least thats how i imagined it
AVOlio
Haha , i dont care what it does.
All i know is i am getting sound from all 5 speakers and Woofer.

Than what's the point of this topic ?

To tell us about the other-worldly atmosphere of football games watched on TV especially with Arabic commentators, maybe?
If I was you AVOlio, I should be concerned for wasting money on a 5.1 system (if it's really that awesome it should have cost you a fortune, right?) that is only acting as a stereo sound output...
AVOlio
@WizaRD, i honestly was not waiting for real 5.1 surround sound for my TV. Specially for football games, which dont really need a real 5.1, but only need a few stereo sound power, and that is what i got. (And the system cost me 100$, which is average, for a surround system). And yes i am still very happy with even that "fake 5.1" stereo power.
So on that behalf, i do not think that my money was a waste.
Now what i was looking forward to, is having Real 5.1 surround sound, in my Games and Movies.
So far, the movies are working fine, since all my new downloads are purely 1920x1080p 5.1 Bluray Rips.
But for the gaming, i am quite disappointed in most of the games.
After reading some post on the internet about other people having some issues similar to mine, i understood that not all games, even recent ones, support 5.1 system.
And that is whats happening with me, as when playing the games, i hear only Environmental sounds (like wind, snow, rain, explosions, quakes etc... ) and the Ingame Music, but dont hear the speeches and dialogues ingame nor the music in the menu/key press sounds in the menu etc...
And every sound issue differs, depending on the game...
The only working games with real 5.1 surround sound now are Battlefield 3 and NFS Most Wanted.
Having trouble with Darksiders II, Sniper Elite V2,Prototype 2, Crysis etc...
So yea to answer your statement, my investment was gainful in some ways, and was disappointing in others
@AvoK95
Obviously, the point of my topic was to be a how to guide, for 5.1 surround sound output on other than a PC. in this case my TV.
But i have already figured that out, so Yea.
Now this topic can be used to help other members having trouble on setting up their PC's,TVs,DVDs, Game Consoles 5.1/7.1 Surround sounds.
Soo Good night, and in case i dont see ya tomorrow, Good morning,Good afternoon and Re-Good night!

You are asking how to setup a 5.1 system. People answer you. Then you mess it up and make it work like a 2.1 system. Then you say that you don't care much. Then you say that it was disappointing.
Why don't you make up your mind?
What was the point of this topic if you don't care if the result isn't going to be 5.1 channel sound anyways?
Something is dying inside me now...
AVOlio
Dude, read Well.
I dont care for the TV sound output if it is or not 5.1. I just wanted the sound to come out of 5 speakers and a woofer so all the people in the room could enjoy the match. (and our neighboors xD)
I was disappointed on PC in gaming !
yasamoka
I read I read...it's just that while you're at it, at least set it up properly. You got 1080p BluRay rips @5.1 channels, at least take advantage of that. That fifth speaker is not going to sound natural with a 2.1 channel input since it is not anywhere significant in a 2.1 channel setup.
In PC gaming, so far almost all games, as far as I remember, that I have bothered to enter the sound options in have offered multiple options for stereo, headphones, surround, etc... between the games that you play, which ones do not work with 5.1 channels? Could you please specify?
Please try to explain your points better. You're losing me in the middle of your explanations, and I am the very patient type ;)
