Hi everyone, my Toshiba Satellite L505 is dying slowly and I'm thinking of buying a new Laptop.
My budget is around 400-650$
I don't really play games on my Laptop so it doesn't matter if the specifications of a certain Laptop doesn't run games.
I'm a bit of a noob, so I don't really know the best budget laptops. Thanks in advance
Metalloy
if gaming is not a concern, there isnt much really to worry about:
hard disk space?
what is you most demanding task ( powerfull software you use)?
if it is only for web surfing and media purposes, go for a laptop without a dedicated VGA, with the hard drive you need and screen size that suits your needs ( 15.6'' is usually the standard, but remember smaller is lighter)
brands: Lenovo, hp are good budget laptops.
MrClass
This:
Samsung NP300E5Z Titan Silver Intel Core i3-2350 2GB Ram DDR3 500GB HDD DVDRW 15.6" LED LAN, WIFI/BT Nvidia Geforce GT520 512MB VGA Cam/NO OS - $459.00 -> add vat 10% ~ 505$

@MrClass's choice is really prefect for you.
geekevo
Most important thing is stay away from hp they overheat too much.
KarimCfc
@Metalloy I really use lots of softwares at once, so I'm kinda in need of a 4GB RAM
@MrClass This sounds like a pretty good laptop but do you know one with a considerably higher RAM (Like 4GB) and a laptop with a pretty good sound system? Thanks in advance guys
KarimCfc
and Hard disk equal to 500GB would be nice..I know I'm asking too much, but I really want this laptop to last a few years with me

ranibalaa's choice is awesome.
MrClass
Yeah ranibalaa's choice is quite good. Better CPU, double the RAM, better graphic card. Though an extra 150$; personally I think it is worth the extra money.
@ranibalaa: Does it come with an original Windows license? Or no OS?
KarimCfc
Wow, that's an excellent choice, and how's the sound system? And like MrClass' questions, does it come with an original Windows License?
MrClass
Karim, if you want a good sound system on a laptop, Toshiba is the only choice. Toshiba is the only laptop manufacturer that uses Harman Kardan speakers for superb sound quality (not sure if also HP switched from Altec to Harman). But, the price of these laptops is way beyond 1000$. The laptops that we are suggesting are simple low end, mid range laptops, so the speakers won't be excellent; perhaps only good. If you want better sound quality get some quality headphones or a mini speaker (you can find these at virgin for ~ 40$ with good bass).
KarimCfc
@MrClass I don't want an excellent one, I'd like a decent/good sound system. My Toshiba Satellite L505 had an awful sound system
AvoK95
@MrClass,
Toshiba's aren't the only ones who have Harman Kardon speakers, I have an HP zv5400 (A very old Pentium 4) which has those speakers.
But you should note that if it's written Harman Kardon , it doesn't mean that it has good bass. No matter what brand speakers a laptop has it still won't have good bass unless it has a dedicated sub-woofer underneath. I have seen LG laptops with generic speakers but with dedicated sub-woofers which sounded amazing. HP has Beats audio as speaker systems, but you will be risking hardware reliability for that, not to mention it may be off your budget.
The Toshiba L505 had generic speakers with no woofer. But considering that it had great sound compaired to other notebooks like my Toshiba L300. But again, if you want good sound, you need a dedicated sub-woofer underneath the laptop and big speakers on top (Does necessarily have to be Harman Kardon , not Altec Lansing).
It's hard to find such a laptop with this specific budget.

@MrClass and @Avok95 Guys, I'm guessing sound system isn't as important (+ off my budget) as I thought it would be, but those 2 laptops mentioned above (Acer, Samsung), do they have a good battery life?
mr-anderson
Acer has a good battery life, but not great
Acer is a very good and fast laptop(i have one) but its sound sucks, only 1 speaker is installed
NuclearVision
Check
this out. I have it for 2 years now, i bought it for 450$. It is a great notebook.
This might satisfy your needs.
KarimCfc
Thank you @MrAnderson and @NuclearVision That laptop sounds fantastic! How many hours does the battery last normally?
KarimCfc
Guys, my Toshiba Satellite L505 is becoming horrible so finally decided to sell it. My budget is around 650$ or 750$..The things I really need is 4GB of Ram or more, a good/great battery life (3 hours or more) and a good/great sound system (A store suggested a Harman/'Kardon laptop for 650$..Looking for alternatives). Any suggestions?
KarimCfc
Guys, I really need your help. I can't find anything ideal to what I need (I'm awful at searching btw!)...All I need is a laptop with decent battery life (3 hours minimum), a decent sound system (Harman/Kardon preferably), 4GB or more of Ram...I probably won't play the latest games on it because I already have gaming consoles. My budget is around 650$, willing to go up to 800$ because the laptop is for the long term...Any suggestions?
