Yea i guess so, but its not always like that. If the official release date of nexus is, lets say, in augest/september time, then you cant have quantity discount since it shouldnt be released in your country. So sellers here tend to buy from gulf markets, UAE and KSA specially, and at the normal 200$ price. Now they sell it for 100, or whatever more, telling you thats VAT + shipment +...etc. They could be true, and they could be false.
But in all fairness, product prices will not vary much between selleres, +-20$s.

you see that $20 is the problem... a difference of $20 goes from increase from 10% to %20... if i was buying like a $1000 and if it was like +- $20 , i wouldn't care but when your buying cheap stuff... +-$20 does make a difference...

of course if they are buying it for $200 its only fair to price it around $250 since 10% is VAT and they need to make a living + shipping...

It shipped today to retailers in US, where can i get it in Lebanon ? Is there an ASUS retailer ?
Oh btw that's my first post, Glad to be here :)
A shop told me a couple of days ago that the official Asus retailer closed down many months ago, and the only way to get Asus into Lebanon is through Dubai and 'tehrib', but then again, its just a dude from a tech shop.
Beej wroteQuestion, do watssup, tango, viber work on this tablet? Or it needs a sim card?
You can use a land phone line number for whatsapp; or just use your cell phone number and they will deliver the activation code to that cell phone number and then you use it on the tablet - it works either way really (bear in mind you can't use whatsapp and the tablet) it depends where you verify the code

Viber works on my brothers WIFI iPad 2 so i believe the same should apply to any non-GSM device. As for tango not sure.

So yeah; no problems i think here.
@Leonedes & applelover: Mate, if you just take a second and read my above post you will find out, I am still “Existed” :D.

Cheers.
@ The-MMMs : Yes the tango will work 100% same as Skype, they work for me on my iPad 2.

Yesterday I got my nexus 7 from USA. It's amazing. I just can't seem to put it down. So smooth!
The price should not be: USA price + Lebanon difference. Because the stated USA price of 199$ includes the profit for the USA retailers and shipping from the source to mainland USA. The Lebanese seller should not buy the goods from USA end user retailers and add his profit ... he should buy directly from the source at wholesale price. That way we get more logical pricing.

Taking USA retail end user price then adding Lebanese shipping/vat/customs is a trick Lebanese shops use to justify large price increases.

I'm not saying the Asus dealer is doing that in Lebanon, it's a general advice.
Any news on this guys?!
Did someone know how to get here in lebanon?!
did somebody already get and can he give us a small review about it?!
I'm so excited to get my hands on one of these!
The nexus 7 is priced at Stars Communication 400$
maybe we should wait a month to see if the price gets acceptable.
KingOmar wroteThe nexus 7 is priced at Stars Communication 400$
I guess thats totally rip-off... 2x the price wow.

I can buy it online with all shipping fees (PLUS features for fast shipping) = max 280 bux....

I recently bought smth online to Lebanon via Fedex, got it less than 3 days.... Fee=50 + 10(shop&ship in Washington to Fedex > Lebanon)

So get it online, it won't ever cost you like this!!
It seems they based their price on the hype instead of the value of the product. There are always some rich folks who would shell out 400$ to get it now (today, right this moment) instead of waiting 2 weeks for shipping, considering that 200$ difference for them is like 5000 LL change. So Stars are probably riding that wave at the moment, and would expect the price to go down after the hype dies out.
There's nothing special about this tablet except its price. So if you take that away, there is nothing left. I pity anyone paying more than 300$ (already too much) for this. There are much better alternatives (toshiba released some amazing but super expensive tablets last month).
This doesn't make any sense. I expected a higher price, but double? Never saw that coming. I mean do they really expect anyone to buy it with such an exorbitant price tag? Especially when its 200$ norm has already been publicized all over the net and every tech magazine out there.
In the Lebanese Market logic, they still consider that anything remotely tech is still a 'luxury item', and therefore they can (and will) raise its price, since they think that anyone buying such a thing can afford it, and so can afford higher prices. They can't grasp, to our detriment, that such items are supposed to become an everyday commodity, not a luxury for a scant few. The general tech business model here is antiquated, and I believe that it's being made to stay that way on purpose, to the point of being illogical. I mean it'd cost me less to actually have a Nexus 7 shipped from abroad than to buy it here. Do they think no one will notice?
If at the "gomrok" they weren't such a**holes I would have bought all what Amazon/ebay has to sale xD
But unfortunately you have to pay at least a huge percentage of the price of your item TAX!

Back on the topic my parents are going to Italy after Ramadan and I told them to get me one (we already have an iPad and I didn't like it, I want something smaller, smoother, that doesn't overheat AND Android OS)
