Hello,

I have been searching for a virtual Wi-fi hot-spot software (like Connectify) that can set WPA or WEP security.
Most of the hot-spot programs I found yet while searching have WPA2, which is not compatible with the device I want to connect, it only supports the two above or just no security.

So is there any program that's able to give me the choice of a preferred security type ?

Thanks in advance,

PS: If possible, I'd like the software to be able to run on Ubuntu, if not it's ok with a Windows software.
If you are on ubuntu 11.0, That would be the easiest way --> Link

A more geeky way to do it on mostly any linux machine: Link
Well I tried both ( I have Ubuntu 12.04 but the same option is available), and the other one seems to need two network cards or an additional hardware, which I can't get so far...

It's really stupid that there is no softwares that provide WPA or WEP instead of just WPA2 !
Oh, and, my computer isn't connected by Ethernet.
Can you clarify a little bit? Do you have a 3G dongle and you want to share it connection?

The scenario is that I have a wireless modem which can hardly reach my grandma's house in the apartment which is next to ours, so usually I put my computer near the window and use the internet when I need that.
It's quite disturbing that I have to stay in a single place, and if I move I get disconnected, so I guess that creating a hotspot to extend the signal for a while would be a great idea, and the cheapest one (It's Free !), add to it that I need that temporarily so it's not worth buying a repeater or whatever.

The device I would be using while my computer is "Hot-spotting" (Or acting as a virtual Wireless router), doesn't support WPA2 security type, it only supports WPA and WEP (It's a PSP) .

So that's it, I will be awaiting your answer.
Thanks in advance.

Am I going to give this up ?
I think maybe issue overcomplicated?
You can do just wireless link to modem over DD-WRT, and setup at same DD-WRT (or better openwrt), AP with WPA2.

LOL
Ummm... I guess, obviously, I already did...

Well, I guess there's no much software solution for that.

Thanks for support anyway,
