So, with Ivy bridge and Kepler chips being released , I wanted to find out what our fellow geeks are planning to use on their new rigs.

I myself will upgrade my current rig with a new i5 3570K Ivy bridge CPU with a new AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 motherboard with G.Skill Sniper 1600MHz 8GB ram kit and an Asus Direct CUII GTX 660Ti/670 (Depending on pricing)

How about you ? :)
Good choices, i myself am planning to add a second HD6870 to my rig and switch my i5 2500 for an i7 3770K.

I thought about a completely new GPU, thought about the kepler, but considering i cant sell my card now easily, and with enough to get a good high end card, ill just add another one instead.

i5's always beat i7's in gaming. And the difference between and i5 and an i7 is only the Hyper-Threading which you'll only use when rendering videos. So save the 100$ and get an i5 3570K. As for the GPU , you might still sell it. Note that 1x 7870 is way faster than 2x6870's so you're better of removing that card and getting a new 7000 series GPU instead.
Well yes exactly why im moving to i7, i am going in to the video rendering business so the change would do me good.

And for the GPU i wont be able to sell it for more than 200$ if it sells, and i have 200$ so with 400$ i wont be able to buy a good card that surpasses the 2*6870s .. correct me if i'm wrong

You can sell the card for 200$ and when they ask you to drop the price drop it to150$ , now you'll have 350$ get 50$ from somewhere and you can get an Asus GTX 660Ti/670.
ill consider it after the 660ti/670 is released so i know if it is worth it
Yasamoka the link isnt working, but if your linking us to the ZOMG 98 degree temp of the IB, well i already saw that :P.

Ill point out the problem, but take what i say and all other reviews NOW with a grain of salt. Its only a matter of days till the nda is lifted and all is clear.

But IB is built on 22nm tech, which is really tiny :P. And duo to intel's "tri-gate" tech they are pacjed rather close with little to no space between them. And we all know that to desipate heat, you factor temp threashold, material used, and surface area. Now duo to little surface area, the cpu is not able to dessipate this heat fast, so its being stored. Thus leading to these temps, but it also could be a damaged temp sensor. It could be damaged duo to this problem, or pure luck.

Regardless of what we see now, we all should wait for true reviews.
Also, a teaser to hats coming:

yea that was done on air to, i know the volts are pretty high, but this is a suicide run. So we have to wait, and remember ONE IMPORTANT thing, Ivy is just a tweaked sandy, so dont excpect miracles. We are in the "TIC" part, not the "TOC".
Yea, Tweaktown has its share of "WTH"s... At least for me, there are alot of errors in many of their reviews. Anyway dont trust anything now.
All websites are showing this issue. How much smaller is the surface area of Ivy Bridge? Surely that can't be the problem. Defective temp sensors for many CPUs on many motherboards. Also unlikely. It's probably the software reading wrong values? Maybe. Didn't anybody check the temps using an infrared thermometer yet? I mean, it's not believable. IB is supposed to run cooler than SB.
yes it does sound odd that Ivy would run hotter than Sb. i'll wait for the official reviews, i think we should get them by early next week.

im planning to get the ASUS Sabertooth Z77 mobo and and the i5 3570K.
the sabertooth is one mean looking mobo:

As for the gpu, unfortunately im finding it hard to justify the upgrade, my OC'ed 570 has no trouble keeping up with most games right now and the 680 is seriously expensive.
Are they trying to hide the used components? Or are trying to reduce mobo temps?
I guess everything will be clear when it's released. Rumors say that it will be released this or next Monday.

OC'd 3770k cooler Idle temp when stock 3770k? 990FX idle temp 8C? sounds legit...
haha good spot! what a load of rubbish.
3 months later
Upgraded Specs:
i7 3770K
AsRock Z77 Extreme 4
Corsair Vengeance 8GB Kit
XFX Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition Double Dissipation (Most probably this card , but I need to make a final decision once the Nvidia 660Ti arrives.
Wow avo, nice "jump" from current pc. But id say, HELL NO, for the xfx... You se though the gpu is cooler than reference, other components are not well cooled, at all. What xfx tried to do is this, dual fan style that dont emmit hot air in your case. So what they do? They sealed it almost completly from the top and bottom. So the latent heat will still be in your gpu, thus heating everything else and will cause lower ocs and powertune kicking in.
Wait for the 660, its around next month or the end of july. For 7870 get something other than xfx's DD.
Planned upgrades :

1 ) Either 6870 crossfire ( adding another 6870 to the one i already have ) . Or sell mine and buy a high end GPU ( thinking 7970 but don't know which yet )

2 ) CPU cooler ( thinking about the Phanteks Phtc14cs, seriously this cooler is just a beast ( check it out here : http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/phanteks_phtc14cs/ ). But i have the motherboard size issue where the cooler will have problems with the RAM sticks where it wont fit and hit the RAM sticks.

3 ) Storage upgrade, two 3TB hard drives ( Hitachi deskstar or maybe seagate baraccuda it will depend on availability )

The XFX 850W pro series should be ample for a crossfired 6870 setup or any of the newer GPUs, all will work just fine, correct me if i am wrong.

And I have a cooler master Cosmos II so space in the case and airflow for cooling the cards is not an issue either.

What I am afraid of is the micro stuttering. Anyone has any personal experience with micro stuttering ? I want to know if it is as bad as some people describe it online. I know that 6870 scales very well even on 1080p resolution so it is worth it. But considering the micro stuttering is a game breaker it makes me suspicious and hesitant. So what do you guys think ?

And in addition to that :

AvoK95 wroteAs for the GPU , you might still sell it. Note that 1x 7870 is way faster than 2x6870's so you're better of removing that card and getting a new 7000 series GPU instead.
That statement was long ago and I am sorry i took a lot of time to comment but, 6870 CF >> 7870 as far as I know performance wise. Could you link me to where you read that the 7870 is WAY faster than the CF 6870 ?
I don't know why I wrote that, it's possible I mixed the 7970 with the 7870.
Anyway, you may find a new 6870 for a very cheap price now. But you could be better off by selling your cyrret GPU and get something like the 7870 or 7950.
Well the 6870 xfire was, back in the day abit faster than 5970. If you recall people opted that instead of buying 5970. Also the 6870 is +- 5870.

Point is this, 5970 has a comparable performance as 1x 580, 5970 is faster though. An oc-ed 7850, creaps up to a gtx 580 level. A 7870 is already ahead of 580 by a good lead, let alon oc-ed 7870. So yes 1x 7870 is faster than 2x 6870. You will have 1 card vs 2, less heat, less noise, no stutter issues from xfire, and no multi gpu problems. All of that with better dx 11 support and features..etc

Yea i would sell the 6870 and get 1x 7870, note that i think the 7870 is THE best amd card this generation. It has soo much in the tank when oc-ed it reached 7950 and is shy away from 7970 (vanilla). But its is STILL overpriced for what it gets, add a few bucks and get 7950 and oc it. Dont wait for the 7950 ghz edition, as i am sure its only a modified 7950. Get a non-reference 7950 and oc it and :D.
