babum wroteAnyway, I never felt any improvement whilst using any public DNS over the ISP's ones. (In terms of location of content speed)
Well, if your ISP's DNS server updates regularly, and doesn't need to redirect DNS requests to another DNS server, then the latency involved in DNS resolution would be equal to the latency between you and the ISP. Since this is naturally the lowest latency possible concerning any connection you make with an external IP address using your internet connection, then it makes sense that public DNS servers would not offer improvement over the ISP's ones. However, for less common URLs, a public DNS server may offer lower latencies to resolve the IP address of the domain name requested.

Kassem sums it up nicely. :D
Am I teh only one having issues wiz proper english in zis thread or wat ?

Edit : ....?

Edit2: l.o.l it.s t.h.e first of April
Anyone know if this measure made it to a vote yet?
hopefully after today's cabinet meeting we'll hear some news of it

Good News: Unlimited Quota from 12AM to 7AM just been accepted by the Council of Ministers! Activation after publishing in Jaride Rasmiye
and that would be effective starting tommorow?
Metalloy wroteand that would be effective starting tommorow?
It would be whenever they get around to publishing it--IIRC it gets released each Thursday, so it may make it this week.

Edit: corrected day
Now in order to have unlimited night traffic with Ogero:
1- You should wait for it to be published in the official gazette.
2- Once posted it will be applied on the beginning of the next month.
3- The beginning of the "next month" you will contact Ogero they will tell you they didn't hear about it yet.
4- Then when Ogero hears about it they will say their servers and infrastructure cannot handle it.
5- They will borrow a couple of routers and servers from a private company again.
6- They will start implementing this new feature on a slow pace, 4-5 centrals each month.
7- Goodbye QoS.

So the whole process, if everything went as planned, will take about 5-6 months.
Oh God, goodbye 200ms ping. Welcome download abusers.

Can someone with a twitter account do me the favor of asking Mr. Nicolas Sehnaoui about the ping issue? :)

I'd like to see that question answered for once.
Welcome download abusers.
:D Yet, I've got to a point where there's basically nothing left to download. Weekly episodes should not be an issue. So, it is fine.

The way the system works here, it will take a few months from people to leave one ISP for another, so there is still time....

You can download everything again because everything is now available in HD.

200? I get 100s

and you talk as if everyone will be downloading all day long, off-course out of the unlimited times alot of people won't think to bypass their limits due to the overcharges :P

also let's not forget that Lebanon's international bandwidth is increasing bit by bit.. from 2 to 3Gbit/s.. then over time from 3 to 23gbit/s(now) hopefully to 33gbit/s in the "coming weeks".. which should help reduce the effects of more users downloading alot at the same time

I'm used to paying 100,000L.L+ Extra for the consumption.. hopefully with this option I can finally save some money :P

I miss Europe already :P

Completely unfair for users who are still on 256kbit connections and have not been upgraded.

I could easily "steal" from these Blink wifi networks anyway, but my conscious is just too good for that; its slowly reclining though.

I was successful in getting a reply from Sehnaoui on his twitter, yet he never replied back when i replied to him

I have forwarded all my problem onto Ontornet, still doesn't seem much help yet

I think ill just burn tires near some CO? Maybe that will work.
Nicolas Sehnaoui wroteAnother good news is that the extra consumption fee reduction from a base of 1Gb to a base of 100Mb was also approved. So in other words citizens will now pay for every additional 100Mb consumed over the quota instead of paying for 1Gb as it was previously
Awesome!
NuclearVision wroteGuys do you know that cyberia's ping is ~45ms
45 ms from where to where ? from your home to Cyberia ? or from Home to Google ?
care to post some ping results and trace routes ?
I asked the minister on Twitter how the unlimited night quota will affect the ping, he replied.

"Because we have increased our international capacity and going fiber unlimited night quota has to have no effect on the ping performance."
