I've been needing to create VPN tunnels to the office for some time now, it's become critical.
Currently on Cyberia 4 Mb 25 GB- residential, and the major setback is that Cyberia does not give public ip's, my WAN ip on the dsl modem is 10.x.x.x
the solution we're working with is Open VPN and DynDns- nevertheless, for dyndns to work it requires at least a dynamic/public ip
apart from Ogero, can anyone confirm that Terranet,IDM or Sodetel give public/dynamic ip's on residential packages?
the sodetel "residential fixed ip" package is 72$ incl. VAT for 1 Mb and 15 GB // the objective is to see if i can get a higher speed and connect the VPN with dyndns instead of paying for a fixed ip.

Sodetel 4Mbps here dynamic public IP, previously Sodetel 512k also it was always a dynamic public IP.
I have been using dyndns on my sodetel connection for a year or so its working great.
(In case you didnt know) stay away from IDM they don't give public IPs for residential users.
Wise allocate public IPs for residential customers too.

we have sodetel HDSL @ 200$ 4mbps/2Mbps 45gb with 4 Public Ips

I am with Terranet, and i have public IP with no restrictions.

thanks for the replies, i'm starting to lean towards Sodetel;
another though i had is that, since both connections- the head office and the remote office have cyberia, and the central is the same, a temp solution would be to ask Cyberia to put both users on the same subnet; although i don't know if it would be possible if the centrals are different. would they do it?

you can also convert to Cyberia Corporate, my experience with their Customer Service is much better than sodetel's
also I find Cyberia much more stable in comparison to Sodetel

update: we just did a site survey today and both locations are in line of sight. we'll be looking at installing two AP's with antennas facing each other. Anyone worked with Link Microtek before?

dp0001
so we're going ahead with the line of sight AP's project on monday;
here are some of my findings in regards to getting a private IP
Cyberia (did not ask)
1mb-->20gb dl- 1 IP- 99+vat
2mb-->30gb dl- 1 IP- 125+vat
Sodetel (free install and 65 $ modem)
1mb--> 15 gb- 1 IP- 65+vat
2mb--> 25 gb- 1 IP- 96+ vat
IDM (installation and modem 350$)
1mb--> 20 gb- 1 IP- 85+vat
2mb--> 40 gb- 1 IP- 150+vat
hope it helps; thanks for the feedback

you can use Hamachi, it doesn't need public IP because it needs relay servers just like teamviewer or logmein,

Its relay servers, or more accurately supernodes, are not close to Lebanon. Our latencies to them are high and transfer speeds low. Usage of other VPNs, like n2n with a supernode like supernode.org.uk (found in the UK, of course), is recommended.

or you could install the wireless connection on your own without having to pay monthly to an ISP. Im not sure how this is done, but it does sound logical.
EDIT: my bad I thought the prices you posted were for the line of sight wireless connection.

just out of curiosity,
You want to connect your two offices i.e. Internally only, why do you not consider investing in your own Wireless Equipment, something like 3Com will cost you around 2000-3000$ MAX, you will have you internal network (up to 54mpbs easily), you wont need to have VPNs, as you can simply extend your LAN over it, and no monthly costs either and most importantly unlimited bandwidth.

I'm with TerraNet and I still have a public IP.

@samer,
Really? Can any outsiders access your public IP? world wide? What does the IP start with? 100.xx ?
Just called them, they told me to talk to the technical support section...
Thanks.

I'm on 213.* – that's not my home connection (I'm with another ISP), but yes, you reach the modem directly.

How do I solve this? The connection is through DMZ now...
Thanks
samer
I'd suggest you start by calling the technical team and report back here. Their support line should open right now.

Just asked them, they dont seem to provide Public IP address < 4 mbps plan.
Switching!

That must be some new policy. I would double-check that they aren't bullshitting you. I have a friend who's with them on a 1 Mbps plan and has a public IP.
