Locked iPhone from the U.S.

My uncle is in the United States at the moment and he asked me if I want an iPhone, so I was wondering if it's possible to unlock a locked iPhone 4/4S in Lebanon since the locked ones are seriously cheap (for a reason, obviously).

Thanks in advance and what are the costs of unlocking one ?

You can buy unlocked ones from any Apple Store in the US. Their contract with AT&T expired.

I'm afraid the 4 and 4S cannot be unlocked yet, but can be jailbroken, which is pointless if you can't use your sim. We're talking firmwares 5.0 and 5.0.1 of course.

You cannot buy an iPhone 4S from an Apple shop. The only way to get one or two (max allowed is two) is by ordering online. I ordered a factory unlocked iPhone 4S 3 days ago and it will ship between January 17 and 24. My contact will then bring it over by hand to Lebanon.

I think it depends on how busy the store is. My relative bought one recently in Ohio directly from the retail shop, no online ordering involved.

in the nordics, the iphone is just another common commodity and is not bound to contracts. you can buy as many as you want. they are all unlocked. you can use any webstore to purchase. delivery varies by different retailers. some would ship abroad, others would not.

Oh, okay. Thanks guys for all the help and Tigerhearts, if the firmware is > 5.0, is it possible to unlock it with turbo sim ?

i got mine from the apple store directly. very simple and easy.
