Hi, im looking for a gaming laptop capable on running new games (portal 2 , bf3 , cod...) on med settings . From what i have seen in magazines , most laptops are with 4gb ram but the graphic card is underperforming or not able to run new games on decent settings. Anyway anybody has some suggestions? Budget is around 850$
Looking for gaming laptop
I would recomend the ACER Travelmate 5742G, which i have and play MW3 on with no trouble.
It has 4gb of ram, an i5 480 m cpu, a 1gb nvidia geforce 540 m graphic card, 500 gb HDD
All for only 650$ in most stores

Thanks for the reply. Did you play it on high settings or medium ? But i still prefer something HP or Toshiba
Laptops aren't meant to be used as game rigs for the following reasons:
-Overheating
-Limited hardware upgrading
-Expensive
-Hard to fix
-No the highest performance and quality compared to desktop.
But if you still prefer a laptop over a desktop I should mention that you should stay away from HP because they are known to overheat a lot and die in a few years. Also stay away from Toshiba as well because most models with dedicated video cards are getting corrupted.
AxisFlame has a good price for that laptop he's mentioning but it's Acer and I have fixed a lot of Acer laptops and all the owners were not happy with their purchase because the parts that get broken are abnormal things like a webcam or microphone or speaker so I'd stay away from Acer as well.
Brand I recommend for gaming are either Asus or Lenovo. When buying Toshiba make sure it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card but in your case a dedicated graphics card is a MUST so you don't have a choice.
You can get a nice gaming laptop from ROG Store He is the Asus dealer of Lebanon and has epic warranty.

I have a desktop , but upgrading and fixing it will probably cost much more.I checked some lenovo laptop mostly corei5-2430m and 1gb vga but dont know if there is an integrated graphic card . How about sony vaio or samsung ? Could you change a laptop graphic card ?Thanks

I do agree that desktops ar by far the best at gaming, but if you are set on a laptop get my above suggestion, or asus, do not get lenovo, i hear bad things about it. To answer your question, in MW3 the game automatically adjusts to your hardware, i did not set it to anything.
Oh , so its asus or acer.Anyway i will check them both at microcity.By the way your acer, was it able to play skyrim or battlefield?
i have not tried either, looking for a place to buy skyrim right now, but if you want to know, i played Assassins creed 2 and brotherhood, it ran great, i also play warhammer 40k: space marine and it runs great, but heats up a little, since there is not way to adjust the graphics on it, because it was first made for console use i believe.
Gaming Laptops are not that enjoyable, because you will be spending lots of time on them, (if you are using a laptop now, im guessing you are sitting with your back crouched, now imaging doing that for couple of hours. cause the screen is not high enough to your eye level.
You also want to look at the keyboard placement unless you have a 17 or greater inch screen to support a full keyboard size.
But here is a site for laptops reviews which i highly recommend before purchasing a laptop
http://www.notebookcheck.net/
and to see what games runs on which graphic cards (both Desk and laptops),
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
also check Technomania it is in Dekwaneh (they are official Acer), http://www.techno-mania.net/
I saw their offers on Waseet, most of them are in your Price range.
there is another place next to it called General Computers and Communications, aka GCC

They will not tell you anything about it, take the name of the laptop and google it, to get all the information about it
Can you name me some games that you would like to play so that I could recommend you something in particular ?
Mainly big game like bf3,la noire , portal 2 , witcher 2 and assassin creed...
Quick Guide into Acer Aspire Laptop, to understand their codes,
Example: Aspire 5750G-XXXXXX
The First Digit "5" represents the Screen Size 15.4, if it was 4750 then the screen would be 14 inch
I had the 8920G, so as you can guess my screen is an 18.4 inch screen
The Second Digit "7" represent the luxury/design + Features, it also gives what class of processor range
This is An Acer Aspire 5950G

The last two Digits "50" represent generation model, but its getting mixed up the days, usually the higher its the newer generation it is.
Then there is Letter after,
G = Graphics or Gaming, which has a dedicated VGA
Z = low end processor, cheap price
D = 3D screen, usually DG since they need a dedicated VGA
P = Touch screen, usually PG since they need a dedicated VGA
you can have more than one letter
Finally there is the XXXXXXXX, this is where you have to pay attention the most. this specifics of the laptop. it tells you, which version of windows you have (Starter, Home Premium, Professional, or Non), which processor 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, etc.., RAMS, which of the VGA is built in even if you have one or two HDD. So pay CLOSE attention to the model.

So far the acer travlemate is the only one with a decent graphic card that runs big games on average settings for a low price according to the graphic card chart .Does a 1 gb graphic card differ from 2gb or 512mb ones.
