Try using a new modem with SRA. That way Sodetel can give you 8 Mbps but your modem will sync at the appropriate speed for your line stats. SNR fluctuates throughout the day +/- 5 db. That way you can benefit from 8 Mbps when your SNR is high enough but when it goes down your modem can sync at a slightly lower speed without disconnecting. That's in case you want the 8 Mbps.

Thanks! Do you know a good wireless modem name with SRA in mind?
My modem does that. my snr is about 14 db during the day on 6 mbps. and 19 db during the night. does that mean that my modem is with SRA? if not, how can I know if it is??
A lot of the new modems have SRA. Just make sure the modem has a BROADCOM chipset since your line is long.

@HotCreep SNR normally fluctuates throughout the day regardless of whether your modem has SRA or not. What modem do you have?
I'm not sure if there is a way to make sure SRA is active from the modem stats.
You can enable it on your end, but if the DSLAM on the other end does not support it, or has it disabled then it will not be active. Think of it as a protocol that allows both ends to renegotiate a new sync speed without resyncing. If both ends don't support the protocol, one end cannot do anything on its own.

Same thing with bitswap, although that is more commonly used on ADSL2/2+ DSLAMs. And at least on my modem, I can see how many bitswaps have been performed since the last reboot, which indicates that bitswap is functional. On my end I see no similar token for how many SRA events occurred.

@georgesmh, Sodetel probably monitored your line over night. If they detected on their end too low an SNR or frequent disconnects/reconnects they would have just downgraded your line. If you change your modem, get back in touch with them, and let them know you suspect a faulty modem on your end, and have them put you back on 8mbps again to see if things have improved and your modem can sustain a stable connection.
Thanks trent.
However, what do you think is the reason of the speed decrease at night. Technical support told me that this is natural at night but the speed is exactly around 0.96 to 0.99 mbps very close to 1mbps and it goes back when the modem restarts. It should be a modem problem right?
It could be a modem issue, but it can also be network management / congestion related since it's happening during FNQ hours.
I think SRA is enabled on DSLAMs have ADSL2+. I once had the TP-Link W8980 (Lantiq chipset) and it would sometimes show 3--- Kbps and sometimes 4096 Kbps without disconnecting. However, when i changed to the Billion 7800 DXL (broadcom chipset) the speed has since been stable at 4096 Kbps. I could be wrong...
Will the speed test always remain on 6.x or its a temporary issue ?
Hey Andrew, my modem is TP-LINK TD-W8961ND
should be under advanced setup >> ADSL when you log in to your router
ah thanks. SRA is already enabled on my router it seems
you probably don't need it if you don't have any disconnections...
How is sodetel's connection? stable speed and ping through out the day?
At 2:00 am sharp, I was downloading a torrent and suddenly the speed decreased to around 0.98 mbps (again). After a modem restart, the speed was back to 2mbps. (I am.on the 4mbps 44$ plan)

Andrew, normally it is great. Now the pings are also great throughout the day. But now I am in no position to judge since I'm having problems that I don't know how to fix and clearly the same for them.
pic speaks louder than words:

George, try a different modem and at times when you experience a speed drop check your SNR and rate.

@DjSam they must be giving you more than 8 Mbps. lucky!
Hell yeah, a speedtest server in Lebanon.
I get a good ping to Beirut server.
Speed Test
@andrew55 they started upgrading the 8mbps plans to 10+ , my line support 12mbps
andrew55 wroteGeorge, try a different modem and at times when you experience a speed drop check your SNR and rate.

Yes I am currently looking for a new modem to get. My SNR has been more than 26 dB even at the speed drops. I am running a tool to monitor it every second. It has to be the modem or a throttling from their part.
If it's throttling then everyone should experience that.

I don't get how Sodetel is the only ISP that offers 16 Mbps!
Can anyone state the best settings to use in modem configuration for higher performance/ping/speed (and a brief explanation if you feel extra nice D )?
QOS type
Encapsulation
Virtual Circuit
DSL modulation
MTU+ size
..
it turned out FUP got applied on my account hence the speed drops. A sodetel support guy just confirmed it.
@nefe_lpmk I set my MTU size to 1400 since it gets fragmented above that but you need to find out on your own from cmd. If you don't feel like wasting your time just set it at 1400 (anything below that you'd get a speed reduction). ADSL1 sometimes improves pings and SNR on some lines. You can try resyncing to see if it helps. I don't think tweaking the other options you mentioned will help a lot but i'm not too sure..

George, are you downloading a lot??
It depends how much "a lot" is... I used to download a lot more than now and never been FUPed. Seems they are more strict now.
Well for example, IDM is setting an FUP if subscribers download more than 3 GB per day on unlimited plans which are a lot more expensive!
If they set it when we download more than 3GB by night on limited plans it would be really strict.. anyways when I restart the modem the speed is back to normal for a couple of hours so their system is flawed :p
By day i am downloading at 800 KB/s and + , after 12 it drops to 100 KB/s .
unacceptable limitation

So i'm not the only one!

PS: it's the 4th night in a row.. yesterday I didn't download anything.. not even in the day and FUP still applied...

I was just downloading at 100KB/s so I rebooted the router and your trick worked, downloading at around 3.2Mbps (400KB/s) now. Thanks.

Don't talk about it too much :p They might notice alot of people doing that and fix it .
The speed is back to 4M and the torrents are incredibly slow at 100 Kb/s peak speed on 44$ plan
I hope this will work out starting August 1. Maybe now it's just a testing period.
Finally... 55 GB with no throttling at 12 AM
No throttling basically because the free internet starts at 1 am :P
Btw george, how come you got 55 gbytes? didn't they downgrade you to the 4mbps plan?
I got 55 gbytes, 6mbps. sent them an email to upgrade to 8 mbps waiting for their reply
they upgraded back to 8 after I called them... i advise you to call them I think It's better. They'll monitor your line again and upgrade back to 8 if your line supports it.
sent them email yesterday, if they do not do anything about it by tomorrow i will call them then
what is your SNR after upgrading back to 8mbps? and average speed on speedtest? and are you disconnecting aw no disconnections at all? :P
