user wroteuh, can't you buy 2 phone lines and get a different connection for each or something? :o

I am sure there are many things you could try if you have a good budget

edit: I miss the 370 ms ping I used to have now :( it is not going below 420 now

they sunk to a new low, if I didn't really need the internet to finish my semester I would have changed long ago...
Sure i could, but that would deprive sodetel of my delightful emails tearing some poor unqualified tech rep a new one for no fault of his/her own, what fun would that be ?

Restarting the router via the interface always seems to give me an ip within an increasing range ie :
93.126.181.39
93.126.181.53
93.126.181.83
93.126.181.99

etc

however its been stuck on the same 400+ ms gateway 93.126.181.1 over a total of about 60 tries over the course of the day. Tried physically resetting the router as well, same gateway.

Any idea how to convince my router to fight the system and hook onto a decent 100ms gateway ? or at least one of the slightly better ones.

We should really organize a subscriber revolt against sodetel. Even if most gamers are too lazy to actually go down to their hq in person, we could barrage them with complaint emails and phonecalls.
I had the exact same problem as you! though I currently forgot the ip I was stuck on, but it was a 450ms+ ip and it was the same for a long time

finally I am on the usually fastest 93.126252.1 gateway but it is also 390-400 ms no more 370 ms :(

and I tried setting the router to find a static default gateway(manually setting it to the above gateway) but it doesn't work, it restarts but fails to connect to anything unless sodetel happens to be giving me that gateway. so basically it is the same whether you set the router on manual or not

we are hostages to this shit, and there is no way around it
I sent an email to the minister's advisor regarding this issue. I have met him and the minister like 6 months ago before the IMEWE upgrade. They usually answer my emails, minister's team are actually working hard to improve this sector. Lets see what the reply will be.
Note that I have sent this email only because the minister did say that the issue here is the E1 'deficiency' so to speak
As I'm writing now, the connection is horrible, I can't even open the ping website to test the connection speed
same over here! and i have an 8mb connection yet my download is at ~200k instead of 700k~800k. Also the pings have been horrible for me all this week !
So after a prolonged conversation with a nice tech support guy, i understand the following :

1- Sodetel has to prioritize corporate clients, so they always have fiber, thats pretty logical
2- They are currently in the process of selectively eliminating some sat routes, this might take up to 2 months.
3- Resetting the router till you get a good ms is the only thing you can do, he insisted he did it himself at home 10-15 times and usually gets a good ping. He even called it the correct technique.
4- There is no segregation for residential, someone who has the 1mb connection has as much a chance of getting on a fiber route as someone with 8mb, in essence all residential without fixed ips are in the same boat.

In essence, expect this garbage latency to persist, and just reset over and over, or settle for the 2mb with fixed ip gaming package they offer, or fork over stupid amounts of money for a soho connection with a fixed ip.

Its a fucking stupid system that alienates their customers really, but i didnt expect much more from a lebanese company.

Didnt someone here write a prog to automatically reset the router till a desired latency requirement is met ?
we never got the program :P in any case it won't be any faster than us in the best case scenario... and it might ignore decent pings like 370 ms that desperation drives us to accept :P

it is 100 ms for me now by the way :/ I don't even enjoy seeing it anymore knowing it will be gone

That would be a nice Lebanese app

370ms isnt decent by a longshot.

150 is decent

100 is good

80 is great.

I spoke to their sales today, the >Insert flurry of sexist insults here< woman on the phone kept trying to extort me into getting the 2mb 25gb package for 108$. I kept trying to use mathematics on her, was not effective.

I was trying to get across that 2mb package is 33$, 8 mb package is 77$. HOW THE FUCKING FUCK IS A 2mb package with a fixed ip 108$.

Thats literally 70$ a month for a fixed ip. Halla2 if thats not extortion i dont know what is. She didnt understand that and kept saying its good value for money.

I have a good mind to go down there and punch everyone in the face, this is retarded, ive had nothing but 380+ ms for 3 days straight no matter how many restarts.
Upgrades from Ogero are really pending. I will let ppl here know, when they will be issued to ISP's.

I can theory only here. If this fixed ip also meant low latency, this means they will give you very limited resource, low latency backbone capacity. Usually they sell this capacity for corporates only, and for big money. Sure they wont sell you it cheap. But this is theory, if it is not described in contract, that it is low latency, then it is not good idea to buy it. Sure just for dedicated ip - it is stupid.
Cheez wroteDidnt someone here write a prog to automatically reset the router till a desired latency requirement is met ?
I did. It's still quite basic, but should probably work. Sorry that I haven't had the time lately to try it with anyone. I've been too busy with tests.

Guys, what would help me is to give me screenshots of the modem webpage maximized, showing the locations of the disconnect button and the connect button, if they are separate, or the connect/ disconnect button, if they are the same button. I would also like screenshots showing any webpages it switches to while disconnecting or connecting. This would help me support multiple modems without having to have complicated scripts that may not work or may mess up something.

And please, make sure you wipe out any information related to your net account visible in the screenshots you post. Thank you in advance.

EDIT: @user: it will ask you for the latency you like. I can also allow it to report its results to a text file so you can see what goes wrong or calculate how many DC/Connects it needed. Also, it would be AT LEAST as fast as you :D. If not much faster, and much less boring.

I hope so. PLEASE keep us posted.

on a separate note, I am thinking about switching to IDM, I called the IDM dude, he told me that they will provide me with a wise box until the dsl application is finished, plus i can keep using my modem + 2 months for free.
I think it's cool..
I asked about their latencies, they said that they have a fixed latency between 90 and 140 ms, depending on where I live.
am not looking for online IDM reviews

talk is cheap, they all want to sell. terra net tried to sell me the same thing saying they can give me a stable latency below 200... I wonder if I call sodetel pretending to be a new user, would they also say the same?:P

we need to ask customers with these connection, not take the sales department's word. marketing is the art of lying to people :P

edit: taking screenshots and uploading them and keeping the links is annoying :P
user wroteedit: taking screenshots and uploading them and keeping the links is annoying :P
What do you mean, annoying? It's all I can work with. I can't guess where your disconnect / connect buttons are going to be :P
yeah I know just saying it will take time

your software... how would it work? is it like a browser plugin or something? cause that is how I access my router

by the way, I learned to play with 370 ms ping, it no longer hinders me :D it's a sad thing to say but... we have to move on :P or pay 70$ a month without TVA
I stopped playing my online game since the slow latency returned, I cba anymore... I'm waiting for this shit to be fixed
So for the past week i have been getting 350-400 ms pings on all pools. Today, to my surprised, I started getting 500-650 ms on all pools. It even fluctuates to 1200-1500 ms from time to time.
speechless
I got pissed and called the support. I got the usual 'it's a shared connection so it's normal to get pings between 100-700 ms' shit.

I hope nuclearcat will give us some good news soon.
guys, is the 2GB policy still active over night? i called them and they said i can download as much as i want..several times, now i hear there's a policy? its been a week since i ordered my sodetel account
