AxisFlame wrotebut rift has been getting superb reviews. you are looking at it from the wow fanboys point of view. you should go to ign or mmohut or watch some game play etc..... there you will get the real info. anyways i think i will try both cata and rift for like a month each and then decide. as for SWTOR i turned it down the second i found out it was F2P :D thanks Vengence :D
I've been playing RIFT since its release, and I've played WoW before that.
The ups of playing RIFT:
1- You can pve by questing, dungeons, and raiding; not only that, but also by defeating invasions which happens quite frequently.
2- There are 4 main types dailies you can do, expert/raid rifts, pvp dailies, dungeon daily reward, and of course whatever faction dailies you would like to do.
3- There is a prestige system for pvp where it increases whenever you do ANY pvp, the higher the rank, the better you can upgrade your pvp gear to.
4- You can acquire 3 main professions. No secondary profession.
5- 4 callings (Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Cleric) each has 8 souls plus 1 pvp soul.
What WoW has which RIFT misses:
1- Arenas, yet dont expect much out of it with so many skills disabled to make it "balanced".
2- Seasonal World events (even though RIFT does put out world events quite frequently).
3- Secondary professions, fishing/cooking...etc
RIFT and WoW Comparison:
1-
PVP: With rift, as long as you do pvp, eventually you can upgrade your gear no matter what you do. Where as in WoW it is highly dependent on doing Arenas and getting your rank up per season. So if you have a hard time with finding good partners, you are pretty much done for, and can never acquire the high end pvp gear.
2-
Souls: WoW has been in the business for OVER 9000!!!! lol jk. On a more serious note, WoW SUCKS in balancing out classes. No matter what they do, there is always a class that pawns everyone. Back when I left mages used to be so OP, that no matter what anti spell enchants I had, eventually they were able to win. RIFT on the other hand, no matter what you choose, there is ALWAYS a counter build, all those stupid RIFT forum QQers want a build that pawns all, but if they learn more, they will understand how things work.
3-
PVE: RIFT 1.5 patch will have solo and duo dungeons along with even more raids, other than that, if you are bored with any other pve, you can join up with other people to kill invasions, or close rifts.
In conclusion, RIFT is a new game compared to WoW, yet it bested WoW in many aspects. I'm sure more to come later on. I just hated how WoW nerfed builds just to suit the pvp QQers needs. RIFT on the other hand introduced a defense and attack mechanism just strictly for pvp without screwing with classes builds.
