  • Where Do We Go Now - Nadine Labaki's new movie

I saw the trailer yesterday, I'm looking forward to watching it. It won the Cadillac People's Choice Award at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. That award was previously won by movies like Amélie, Slumdog Millionaire and Hotel Rwanda.
I don't like her kind of movies, all the lebanese loves her but not me sorry

Would you mind explaining why? While we are all entitled to different tastes, the discussion would be much more interesting if you explain why you don't like her kind of movies.
Moreover, I don't think she really established a style, as this is merely her second feature film.
I don't like anyone promoting homosexuality on TV or cinema, it's a free propaganda just to be ''a la mode'' or because she has a friend like that
^ There's nothing in the movie about homosexuality.
well i watched her first movie and it was good,so why not i will watch the movie soon maybe.keep it up Lebanese cinema :)
In caramel there was a lesbian passage
nadine and her movie are such a bad publicity for the country and the tourism
i watched here on france3 about a week ago, and she was explaining that "we, in lebanon, are afraid to open our shops because we are afraid that a civil war can break any time"
i can understand that she is promoting her film which talk about war, but she is giving a very bad image of the country abroad to a point that the france3 presenter asked her that why all the Lebanese films talk about war and that he visited beirut and didn't fell the way that nadine explained.
Moreover her movie is a copy paste of italian movies like cinema paradiso and il postino...... with no characted dvelopment and the music is a copy paste of polka traditional music.
Actually, i never really saw or heard of a brilliant or good Lebanese movie. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't know why, but i can't stand Lebanese music and movies, i think they always try to imitate the west but they "Fail" badly.

@Mr. Anderson; I agree.

We're telling you now... this is a very, very good Lebanese movie.
hussam wrotemy impression after watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCzC6I_02Kg
is it's a bit phony and too zomg artistic.
It's hard to judge a whole feature film by its trailer. I suggest you give it a try, there's not much to lose.
Love you reviews Elie, very informative and detailed.
The day a Lebanese cinema director will have the guts to do a movie about syrian war in Lebanon it will be a good movie, 15 years of war and no descent movies about it...

West Beirut :)
West Beirut was too ''one side'' oriented, it doesn't talk of the suffering of the Lebanese under palestinos and syrians bombardements (I lived it), a movie about the 100 days of Achrafieh will be nice for exemple.
Also west beirut was resuming all the war as civil war while it was not the case, it was Lebanese against palestinos then syrian, israeliens...
Lebanese civilians were always the targeted because the syrians and palestinians had a sort of hatred and jalousy toward us
I was at the theater a couple of days ago and saw posters for the movie Rue Huvelin--anyone hear any reviews on that?
vegetaleb, can we please stick to the topic? We are discussing Nadine Labaki's new movie. Let's not turn this into a flamewar. Thanks!
