Google Dns servers questions
DNS is only for name resolution. It doesn't actually affect your internet speed once you have connected to the website you are downloading a page or content from.
However, if you are browsing in firefox and the stage where firefox says something "Looking up www.dilbert.com" takes a long time, then using google's DNS will help. It won't speed up the actual downloading of the website.

Use namebench to test which open DNS is better for you (along with your ISP's): https://code.google.com/p/namebench/
Google's DNS can be better as it probably has one of the best uptimes. My ISP's DNS did go down few times, or takes much more time to get updated entries.
Personally I usually have my ISP's DNS as primary and Google's as secondary.

Yes i've used 8.8.8.8 for a while, because it's so easy to remember. I don't know about how it affects performance, but there doesn't seem to be a performance issue for me.
am using it and the performance is pretty stable.
ok iam using opendns and iam quite happy about it :)
8.8.8.8 rules!
F.E: You register a new domain, you need to wait 24hrs for it to show up on lebanese internet, on GoogleDNS, you wait 5min, and it works!
Sometimes, Lebanese DNS Servers crashes(happened to me thrice), I happened to use OpenDNS and it still worked!
