hi im going to leb next month, and i need a phone card there.

i thought that if i need internet for some quick look up while im wandering through the cities i could take a sim card which provides internet too.

which one would be good, and what are the prices?

thank you
GPRS but a postpaid line. Or if you have a blackberry BIS.
Here are your current options for mobile internet in Lebanon:

With a prepaid card, you can subscribe to WAP, it's the slowest option and might require you to do some hacks to get it to work on a smartphone (the operator might block certain user agents so you will need to fake it).

With a postpaid card you can get access to GPRS/EDGE (depending on where you are). It's not very stable but it works. With the iPhone (and on Alfa) if you keep GPRS on, some calls might not get through.

Your last option is to get the BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service). Essentially, it's just an EDGE/GPRS connection, but it also gives you access to some blackberry services. Obviously, only choose this if you have a BB. This service is for postpaid lines only.
correction BIS is also for pre-paid it's 7.20$ per week

Right, I forgot they made it available for pre-paid as well :)
Thanks for correcting me.
Does anyone have a clue if you can take the Blackberry Service even if you don't have a Blackberry handheld ? Internet Connection Wise ?

No, so far you cannot, maybe you could change the user agent of your phone to the blackberry ua, and spend 40$ to try it, but i still think it wont work, because i have read once that the blackberry handhelds have some sort of hardware that other phones do not have, and the BIS need that kind of hardware to work ( not sure about that though)
hmm thanks for your reply, im not sure if the let me get a post paid card if im just there for 2 weeks.
it is not worth it really (postpaid) for two weeks.. why don't you get a wifi capable phone and try using it with wifi mostly and prepaid internet.

It is easier that way, If you are going to a village/small city there will be most probably a wifi service around try buying a card from them
you know i got for example whats app, or A-GPS, i would need them just in time, and not when finding a wifi.

but ill look for it what i can do : thx all for your replies.

lebanon is awesome :D
