user wroteI am in favor of more quota. I did not get the details of this improvement though. I can't find the details.

Anyway does that explain why ogero's latency doubled for me in jounieh?(they could be testing or rewiring)

anyway I wouldn't put too much faith in this. We placed a lot of faith in the cable 3 years ago and we speculated imaginary number. Our quota remained the same(basically uploads and downloads were merged and a bit was added) and we were given speed only to finish our quota faster.

Our internet copper based network is too outdated to handle a lot of simultaneous traffic...
The full details of the improvement will be announced on Friday the 23th at 10am at a press conference by the telecom minister(as he replied to a tweet asking about that)

but this is what we know so far, as shown in this table:

As for your latency, it could be from various reasons, someone tampered with your wire perhaps?(I had a similar encounter once when Ogero installed a new telephone line in the building and accidentally set mine to an old obsolete wire), could be that they are testing something? or it could be something local(your modem usually)

As you can see the numbers in the table are presumably download + upload combined(since this is how it was the last upgrade without any distinction mentioned)

and while yes, I do agree our copper-based network is outdated, let's not forget we had the same worry when Ogero introduced unlimited usage nights and we thought we the QoS was gonna sink bottom at that time, but surprisingly the network was completely unaffected and this makes sense considering Ogero controls most of the bandwidth of the country, so they are(out of all ISPs) the most capable of handling a large simultaneous traffic load.

The question that bugs me is how are they gonna deliver the minimum 2mbit/s speed if alot of people that use Ogero now(including myself) have heard that their line cannot support more than 1mbit/s
ramy58 wroteLet's just hope that 2M unlimited package doesn't have BS FUP. Because if it doesn't, then this will be the perfect package (for me). I don't need 1080p to enjoy something. I just don't like it when stuff is limited.
I plan to get that offer as well, and yes the same question wanders in my head, will it be FUP enforced?
but considering Ogero didn't implement FUP on unlimited night usage I feel this offer will follow the same trend. I suppose at the conference if the minister doesn't mention an FUP for the unlimited plan then it's safe to assume there won't be one.

Another question is whether the unlimited night(12am-7am) will stay for the limited options when the new plans are activated.

This half-month will bring about alot of information and hopefully good news :)
geekevo wroteI just realized if they cancel the unlimited nightly traffic it would be a step backwards for us. We can do more than 40 or 50GB per month on nightly traffic with decent speeds.
Asked the minister's counselor today. That's what he said. Fingers crossed.

they are not going to cancel the unlimited nightly traffic, walid karam on twitter said that (he is the advisor of boutros harb) go to his twitter account:@walidkaram

Superb news! thanks for posting this. Guess we can put that rumor to rest.
geekevo wroteAvoid their phone support team it is useless. The real technical people who know what is going on are available by email, last time the phone support guys refused to put me in the gamer's pool and told me to contact them by email.
"gamerrs pool"??
Well, with all due respect to Walid Karam, he doesn't seem to be knowledgeable about the subject (or at least he is applying foreign assumptions to Lebanon's network).
I am referring to his reply saying "ADSL supports up to 8Mbps ~5km)". You see, I live at around 4.3km from the CO and the max I was able to get was 256Kpbs ! Not even 512Kbps ! So his target download speed is far far from realistic in Lebanon. I am sure many people have the same problem anyway.
I think my latency problem has more to do with the google server than myself. We had a what I assumed a local server and its latency was 30 ms to us. Now I ping it and get 100 and thought something was wrong with my connection. It looks like maybe they moved it out.

Anyway. I would definitely be happy if any upgrade comes and is stable (I'd like to underline is stable) And I am afraid of getting my hopes up for anything in this country, so I'll just wait and see, don't break out the champagne just yet.

The unlimited night traffic is a law passed by Sehnaoui, not a courtesy from ogero or anything like that. To stop the unlimited night traffic I think they should amend the law... It is not simple
New tweets from Boutros Harb and Walid Karam : the changes will start 1st of June, the prices rumored aren't exactly true, and walid karam said that there won't be any fair usage policy on the unlimited plan (if it is real) with ogero (he also added that other ISPs may have a FUP.
I bet you cyberia will be the first to have FUP , I will really consider moving to OGERO if that's the case
Oops. I think we should hold our breath till friday.

I'd say nothing more-or-less than a difference of 3000L.L if he's using the word 'accuracy'.
I hope it's not a 20GB/month difference in quota. xD
According to that graph, I can get a phone line installed for internet use free of charge, then I just pay 9000LL + internet subscription?

YES

Take these numbers with a big pinch of salt. Friday is just some days away.
"just not accurate!"

Let's just hope it's the "no, the speed/quota is higher" type of inaccuracy
or the "we didn't officially post this table yet" type
Guys, i think that all rumored numbers are good for us even if not accurate, but what scares me the unavailability of rumored speeds at most COs around Lebanon, I'm sure we will hear "istez, 5attak ma bye7mol aktar mn 1 Mb", "istez, ma fi 5tout baddak tontor"...

sorry but I am pessimistic until otherwise proven.

The backbone interconnecting central exchanges is made of ancient and archaic copper.
The big thing's changing soon is the switch to a brand new fiber network facilitating exchanges and handling more bandwidth during peak hours.
In theory, every single DSL subscriber will benefit from these upgrades.
The only factor which is NOT changing is that line connecting your home to the telephone exchange, and this will still play a factor in packet loss and noise on your DSL line.
All in all, I expect higher speeds everywhere with some people still getting between 750K and 1M (instead of 2M) in remote areas due to their line's poor quality.
Wondering if there will be any latency improvements.
H.S wroteWondering if there will be any latency improvements.
I doubt that. I don't think they are rerouting the traffic, just changing pricing and quota.
If anything, I am worried we will have a higher latency due to higher global usage during the day and in the evening because of a bigger quota.
