You are right i still don't know how this calculator works but when you increase the value the speed increases which is wrong, but on the other hand when you decrease the cable loss number your speed will suffer as well so i guess in this calculation the higher the value the better...hishjwnz wroteDoes it make sense though?
If our cables are older than average then the cable loss should be higher than the average of 13.81 which is used here https://www.speedguide.net/dsl_speed_calc.php

maybe it's km/db , that way it makes sense = less km and more noise

The online calculator determines your max rate based on distance (NOT attenuation value). So if you increase the cable loss, while keeping the attenuation the same, it means you are closer to the CO; hence the higher max rate value.roudy5 wroteYou are right i still don't know how this calculator works but when you increase the value the speed increases which is wrong, but on the other hand when you decrease the cable loss number your speed will suffer as well so i guess in this calculation the higher the value the better...hishjwnz wroteDoes it make sense though?

EDIT: This is all mathematically speaking... I am not sure whether the correct way to measure it is the way the program does (i.e based on distance rather than attenuation).

What I have previously noticed is that the online calculator determines your max rate based on distance (NOT attenuation value). So if you fix the attenuation value and increase the cable loss, the program concludes that you are closer to the CO; hence the higher max rate value.roudy5 wroteYou are right i still don't know how this calculator works but when you increase the value the speed increases which is wrong, but on the other hand when you decrease the cable loss number your speed will suffer as well so i guess in this calculation the higher the value the better...hishjwnz wroteDoes it make sense though?

EDIT2: Sorry about double posting (clicked quote instead of edit)
In that case it makes sense but as far as i know the rate is based on attenuation... if you are 2 km away from the CO with 19 dB attenuation or 1 km with 19 dB attenuation it should be the same speed.
Anyway i may be wrong and thanks for clarifying it.

Today i revieved 2 calls from ogero with "private numbers" uppon my request if it's possible to change the telcom box location, Im only 20 meters far from the cabinet "Geographically" but the cable should pass through the telecom box which is 350m far "so the approximate distance is 800m in total of the cable" he answered me that it's impossible to move the telecom box "contains 1800 line" to a place near the cabinet and he ended up telling me that i should wait to fiber optics when it's connected to my home so i can benefit from a speed upto 200mbs comfortably.. but what i didn't understand is the benefit of active cabinet in my area if the nearest subscriber is 350m+ far from the cabinet !!

I totally agree with you. Actually when I said "I am not sure whether the correct way to measure it is the way the program does", I meant to say that I actually DOUBT that the program measures it correctly. Sorry I wasn't clear enough.roudy5 wroteIn that case it makes sense but as far as i know the rate is based on attenuation... if you are 2 km away from the CO with 19 dB attenuation or 1 km with 19 dB attenuation it should be the same speed.

Did you get the name of the person who called you?Khalil7 wroteToday i revieved 2 calls from ogero with "private numbers" uppon my request if it's possible to change the telcom box location, Im only 20 meters far from the cabinet "Geographically" but the cable should pass through the telecom box which is 350m far "so the approximate distance is 800m in total of the cable" he answered me that it's impossible to move the telecom box "contains 1800 line" to a place near the cabinet and he ended up telling me that i should wait to fiber optics when it's connected to my home so i can benefit from a speed upto 200mbs comfortably.. but what i didn't understand is the benefit of active cabinet in my area if the nearest subscriber is 350m+ far from the cabinet !!

Same. My attenuation drops from 16 to 13 dB.Ahmad Toutounji wrotesamealiessayli2 wrotesamehkbazzi wroteattenuation changes with different modulations... G.DMT is the lowest for me
My max rate also drops though from 15 to 12 Mbps which I find a bit strange. Is this normal ? Do any of you guys also witness a drop in max rate when switching to ADSL modulation ?
I would understand if it dropped to 8 Mbps for example since it is the max rate on G.DMT. But since it drops to 12 only, it is obviously not limited by that.
for me it drops to 8 i don't know why you're getting 12 it's strange indeedHassan wroteSame. My attenuation drops from 16 to 13 dB.Ahmad Toutounji wrotesamealiessayli2 wrote

Guys, Ive been following this thread for a while and i see a lot of people with very high speeds.
I have less than 1 Mb/s at home currently.
Is there something i can do to boost the speed? I saw something about VDSL

Well first of all can you post you line stats ? line attenuation and sn margin, depending on them you can see if you are eligible for higher speeds.phil.asmar wroteGuys, Ive been following this thread for a while and i see a lot of people with very high speeds.

For the download speed, i have a high attenuation of 44 and SNR 6 but my modem specifies that the max rate is 4500Kbps compared to the actual 1016Kbps.roudy5 wroteWell first of all can you post you line stats ? line attenuation and sn margin, depending on them you can see if you are eligible for higher speeds.phil.asmar wroteGuys, Ive been following this thread for a while and i see a lot of people with very high speeds.

Your attenuation certainly gives you 4 mbps but your problem is high noise, 6 dB snr is the limit, anything below that and your connection will start to drop and become unstable, so you modem syncs at 1 mbps becuase higher speeds will decrease the snr, check for electrical interference as stated in this forum (check the stats during a power outage).phil.asmar wroteFor the download speed, i have a high attenuation of 44 and SNR 6 but my modem specifies that the max rate is 4500Kbps compared to the actual 1016Kbps.roudy5 wroteWell first of all can you post you line stats ? line attenuation and sn margin, depending on them you can see if you are eligible for higher speeds.phil.asmar wroteGuys, Ive been following this thread for a while and i see a lot of people with very high speeds.

Will I benefit from anything when the new prices and speeds (VDSL) start?
When i applied for my connection, ogero and sodetel told me your line can handle only 1MBPS, do you think they capped my speed to 1MBps?
