he said they will begin with ftth in Beirut first
haidcar
FTTH takes a long time to implement, it involves running wires from CO to each and every hone served by that CO, much like with current copper wires. (virtually unlimited speed)
FTTC involves running fiber from CO to a Box that will serve an area of aprox 500m, so if they do that every area should have a few of these. (up to 300 mbps)
FTTN is same as FTTC but serves a larger area but with slower speeds. ( we are still talking of 10-20mb)
NuclearVision
I thought fibers were already implemented but not live.
Wasn't that sehanoui's plan two years ago?
ahmad-toutounji
The fibers that sehnaoui deployed are fibers between cos only (300 centrals)
haidcar
yes they only rolled a fiber backbone that connects all CO with each other.
the project finished more than a year ago, but they haven't switched the new network till this very day.
guess they will do so tomorrow, but that should make much difference for internet users, thats where FTTx comes in.
Doom
So tomorrow we might experience some improvement in internet?

those who live in beirut there was some digging on roads and implementation of large pinkish cables, for those who passed by hamra street it made huge traffic a couple of weeks ago. I though those were fiberoptics cable, am I right? (at least i am just hoping that they would be)
ahmad-toutounji
i hope too If anyone knows anything tell us please

I need decent ping at least

For 2020?
God knows if we will stay in this country another year so waiting for 2020...
What about ADSL new speed an new prices? Why are we stuck with 4 and 6mb/s while we should be at 100mb/s at the same price?
Ruroken
Well i also live in Bshamoun and let me tell you that for the foreseeable future it's going to be rough for us. I've tried the internet from a normal Cable guy and that turned out to be super bad, then switched to Wise which started ok then went downhill and now i am simply using Wins from Sodetel with the Black Box, so i pay $50 for 1Mbit speed and 16Gb of quota (unlimited night traffic) with a ping that goes up and down the majority of the time. At the moment, this is the best you can get. If you're hoping for online gaming then dream on brother. I would like to point out that i spoke to the new isp Connect and they informed me that they haven't covered Bshamoun yet but they'll do so in the near future, so i'm gonna try them out when they do and hope for the best.
By the way, for online gaming, my advice is to use 3G connection from Touch solely for the gaming (since its quota is ridiculously low and costy) and have a normal internet (for browsing and downloads) on the side. It's an expensive solution but the only one for now.

From the presentation,I think we won't get any improvement until 2016,, and boutros's plan:continue XDSL-->FTTO-->FTTC-->FTTH,and I have read too that the final speeds are going to range from 100mbps to 1gbps.Plus there's already buildings and baladiyet with fiber optics.
amkahal
what annoys me, that the minister talk about Fiber and 5G and, and ..... we didn't have a least stable 2 Mbps for all Lebanese. So let's get stable internet with modest speed, and then talk about big Dreams.
ahmad-toutounji
From what i comprehended that they will take care of xdsl first (adsl2,adsl2+,vdsl(hopefully)) then ftto for business and stuff then fttc for areas whose cos are far from them and beirut then ftth phase 1 beirut and other major cities (it takes from 2016 to 2018 i think) then ftth phase 2 to the rest of the country

One question please (I tried to check if it already present but hard to find in 90 pages):
I have relatively good download speeds, but my upload is very slow. I have a 4Down/1Up package (after the upgrade), but the upload barely reaches 0.4mbps and on the peak hours drops to 0.1mbps. ( Try making a skype video call with an unstable 0.1mpbs upload)
After contacting my ISP, the technical support told me that "Ogero doesn't allow any ISP to provide more than 0.5mbps, even if the package is 1mbps". So they said, it is on Ogero side.
Is that true? Is it on Ogero side or as usual throwing the responsibility ball on Ogero court-field?

Yes last year Ogero which in front of my uncle's building proposed him to try the 100mb/s for a month then it will be paid, he refused as he's a high speed internet hater (don't ask me why!!), I think the building next to his got it instead.
Give me 20mb/s with a 200gb quota for what I pay today as 4mb + 50gb and I will be pleased.
For 4G he could have at least boosted the quotas from 500mb to 1.5gb (10$ plan).
Just opening the facebook app is at least 20mb
ahmad-toutounji
yeah adsl2+ can do that and it will be the first step to make is installing adsl2+ in cos, I will be pleased with 10mbps and 180gb

I liked this :
– 2015-2020: FTTC (+VDSL) cabinets (& Houses)
Internet stations will be connected to the cabinets in this phase and current DSL connections will be upgraded to +VDSL. DSL will also be made available to areas without coverage.
– 2016-2020: FTTH1 (Houses)
how long do you guys think that vdsl is gonna need to be deployed in Beirut (ras Beirut actually) and a note we won't benefit from vdsl or adsl2+ if there wasn't new plans and prices.
haidcar
is this some kinda of joke?
all time lines are either 2015-2020 or 2016-2020 expect for the LTE expansion
and their lebtelcom2020 website shows no details
i have feeling we are not going to see improvement for another 2-3 years minmum , by then it would be too late
