Lol man you have very good stats you should have a 16 mbps max rate why modem shows only 10-14 and send thepeople@ogero.gov.lb a mail to ask them your distance to the CO cable-wise i live like 500m from the CO but my cable distance is 1.5Km !m0ei wroteSo after my ping with IDM went down to 65ms (to Paris) on Friday, it got back up to 97-100 today. I called them, asking them about this shit so they told me to do some traceroute (to google.com) and so on. I did notice freaking high pings, around 45ms in the second and third hops
I was messing with the modem's setting, I switched the ADSL type from ADSL2+ to G.DMT and the ping dropped to 63ms. Furthermore, I did a traceroute and noticed the the second and 3rd hops are now 5ms, down from 45ms.
IDM support guy told me that my line has a very high noise margin, and my line stats aren't that good.
Current stats with G.DMT:
SNR Margin: 17.0 | 11.0 db
Line Attenuation: 19.0 | 12.0 db
Max Rate: 10304 | 1224 kbps
Current stats with ADSL2+:
SNR Margin: 19.1 | 13.1 db
Line Attenuation: 18.8 | 11.6 db
Max Rate: 14496 | 1102 kbps
My TPLink modem doesn't show the noise margin, though it can be calculated using the SNR margin and the line attenuation.
I'm still unsure what's actually going on honestly, the ADSL2+ and G.DMT thing specifically.
Note: I'm kinda near the central (~1km max).
Internet in Lebanon - General Questions
Hey guys, shouldn't the line attenuation depend only on the distance to the CO? I had around 24 dB about a month ago, but now it just changes between 29 and 31. Can anyone give me a cause for this sudden change?
As long as the politicians are not gaining much $ from the new plans they will postpone them for ever.
We should as lebgeeks brothers prepare a march to put pressure on this government so they sign the damn decree, if each one of us can convince several people to join us then we can do something

It is related to the length of the line from the exchange, but it varies depending on the actual wire gauge, and the quality of the copper line.Georges01 wroteHey guys, shouldn't the line attenuation depend only on the distance to the CO? I usually from time to time witness a fluctuation in the line attenuation especially when the downstream FEC errors reach a million, but upon restarting the modem all the numbers will get back to normal and the connection will be stable.
I suggest to sign a petition online, or any better ideas?infiniteloop wroteAs long as the politicians are not gaining much $ from the new plans they will postpone them for ever.

An online petition never changes anything. However getting someone's office number to ring non-stop during working hours is the best course of action.
I agree, they won't even be aware of the petition or will say that we ''hacked'' it, throwing daily complaints like you said or a march can make them take us seriouslychosen2k wroteAn online petition never changes anything. Ringing or going to the street will get you nowhere , sadly thats our country its been like that since forever now.
They promise and promise and promise and we get nothing , lets wait for another cm if there will be any after 15 of may =)))))
If mr imad can do the people a favor by giving us each sunday 24 hours of full internet speed that would be so great of him , till this dead council sign the decree

Not doing anything never changes anything.
Action, even if barely significant, at least might have an impact.

Guys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.
Yes he said in a tweetMylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.
It's a good move, he will push the general public to know they are forbiden to get these new interesting plans because a bunch of mafias don't want to sign a simple paper.Mylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.
BTW the only solution for this country with tech things like internet evolution is to privatize totally this field, we are the only country in the world put aside communist ones where the government decide of new internet plans, it's killing competition between companies and slow everything

you are right but , I think he did it to let the public know of the new plans because he felt guilty and sad the previous night, and he have confirmed news that they will discuss it next cm meeting, btw just for sharing Amsterdam have 300mb internet for 58 euros only and another area in Netherlands have 500mb internet.. it is true if we privatize we will have much better technological servicesinfiniteloop wroteIt's a good move, he will push the general public to know they are forbiden to get these new interesting plans because a bunch of mafias don't want to sign a simple paper.Mylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.

You guys are right. The way i see it, they are somehow jealous from Mr. Imad professionalism, innovation, and the achievements done by him this year as soon as he became Ogero director. All our hopes rely on him as far as fast internet service is concerned, and we are still expecting a lot of surprises and achievements from him. Our moral support to Mr. Imad is a mustAhmad Toutounji wroteyou are right but , I think he did it to let the public know of the new plans because he felt guilty and sad the previous night, and he have confirmed news that they will discuss it next cm meeting, btw just for sharing Amsterdam have 300mb internet for 58 euros only and another area in Netherlands have 500mb internet.. it is true if we privatize we will have much better technological servicesinfiniteloop wroteIt's a good move, he will push the general public to know they are forbiden to get these new interesting plans because a bunch of mafias don't want to sign a simple paper.Mylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.

Please, please guys, leave those lofty passes about other countries that have faster Internet, like it's your right to have the same.
Those countries have totally different societies.
They got what they deserve, you got what you deserve.
That's because (I already mentioned it before), this decree will kill a +100 companies and put a +1000 people out of a job.
I tried talking with several of those ISPs, but they're unable to cooperate properly to propose something better, something that can evolve for the better of all. No one was interested when I mentioned cooperation, no one listened.
Because all, feel fine turning a blind eye to others losing their jobs if in return, they get a few MBs or GBs...
Do you think any of the Lebanese ISPs care about the interests or even presence of the smaller ISPs, as soon as they realize it won't bring them any money or PR benefit?
Eventually, ISPs will cannibalize each other. One who's capable of leaving someone else to dry out will surely leave you in less than a heartbeat. You know, pretty much like they're ditching others, they can surely ditch you...
Am I watching all that, and giggling behind my screen?
No, of course I'm not, I feel pain for such society...
My sarcasm here hopes to push some people to become more human...
There is a nice article, of "good society":

What i liked:
They thought they were going to get shut down – but the officials gave them instructions on applying for a permit, raising hopes that the state may authorize projects like theirs.
“They made it clear our network was illegal,” Alvarez says. “But they said they wouldn’t be taking our antennas down.”
Lebanon's got a LOT to learn... A lot...
And please guys, grow some spine, and use that empathy to acknowledge other groups in the same society..
