Appraisal of an Antique Dagger

Hello everyone, are there any antique collectors among us here ?

I have this old dagger which i believe to be very rare and would like to know more about it and its value these days. It is a Mamluk dagger from the era of al-Malik al-Nasir Nasir al-Din Muhammad ben Qalawun ..
Nickname: Abu al-Ma'ali (أبو المعالى  1285–1341) who was the ninth Mamluk sultan of Egypt.
As the carving on the dagger says :  " العز لمولانا السلطان الملك الناصر "
So any experts in the house who can share more info about it please ?

These are some photos of it :

Looks like those daggers you can buy for 3.000 l.l are you sure about it's authenticity?

I have something that looks like it bought 10 years ago from baalbek, if I find it home I'll post the pics.

hehe No definitely not the 3000 L.L kind .. all the details and carvings are hand made not a machine job you can notice the lines and the "Phrase" is not a common sentence used since old days .. plus the copper is genuine with appropriate weight .. However for more accuracy are there any tests ( chemical, ... ) that could be done to indicate the exact age of such an item ?

Re: Appraisal of an Antique Dagger

I am a coin collector (since as long as I can remember) but I am recently introduced to other antiques as I am trying to sell some for a guy I know. I am not the antique expert (except for coins) but I know some and I will ask them about yours if I ever met them in the near future. The problem is they live in Biqa3 and Baalbek so I won't be able to be of help anytime soon and I cannot do this on the phone.

I am not claiming to be an expert on this but the wooden handle does not look that old so your item might be fake or "not so old copy" and in that case it could be worth something. Anyway it is rare to find something as authentic as it claims in the dagger market but this does not mean yours is not.

For all it's worth have a look at my friend's authentic collection and by the way his antique handguns collection is more interesting and I am in the process of finding a buyer.

I'll ask for the daggers but right now I am involved in selling the guns. I posted their images below for all to see and they all date to World War I (European made and late, 1880 - 1920's).

If you are interested in finding me a buyer for those, send me a pm and I'll give you the details and we will help each other.
