Hello,
Please share your opinion in regards to the outlined subject and DSLR.
A friend of mine is offering to sell for a bargain price a nikon d80. I have
always been a satisfied canon user, hence i have never used a nikon.
a bargain is a bargain, you cant lose with that but is it worth the change?
that is the question.

Read this article: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/
In terms of reviews, dpreview is to DSLRs what John Siracusa is to Apple products.
I hope this helps.
Seriously asking this questions?
Keep your Canon of course!
Owning one of the best camera for an entrance in the DSLR world I can say: Canon All the Way
About this Nikon that you're talking about here is what I find "poor"
Exposure mode
Image sizes
As well as the pixels; 10Megapixels is really low for a DSLR

Not really. 10mp is more than fine for most people actually.
Do you already have a Canon SLR? Have you invested in its equipment?
If you're just starting out the camera body isn't such a big deal really, eventually you will be investing in lenses/flashes/etc and those are interchangable with new bodies. The problem is once you have invested in a lot of equipment for one of these companies, you wont be able to switch without losing all the investment.
I'd say buying this depends very much on the price you've been offered. Don't forget it is a 5 year old camera at this point so compare the price offered with newer models and see if it is really a worthwhile bargain.
Welcome to the lovely world of photography!
I hardly could ever solve this question. Nikon have a nice touch to them. Their colors are nice, their camera design are particular, they are known to have professional reliability and quality.
Canon are usually a little cheaper, especially in the lower end. Yet they often offer more performance or features for your bucks, but the quality (I'm mostly thinking about the hardware) can be deceiving. They are more about providing the performance you paid for.
My preference goes toward Nikon lenses, but their price and lower availability, and the interesting offers Canon or other newer competitor come with always makes me reconsider.

It doesn't really matter what kind of camera you use as long as you can take good photographs...
