Checking up your ADSL Line Quality via SNR Margin & Line Attenuation
SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding
Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
> 20dB and below is outstanding
> 20dB-30dB is excellent
> 30dB-40dB is very good
> 40dB-50dB is good
> 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues

Mine is: SNR 31
Line Attenuation 29 !
btw ogero's support told me that they are having some problems with their central....whereas the truth is that my modem was dying.. i just replaced it and everything is working like a charm.
advice: never ever try to call ogero or any other isp 's support.
on my Linksys route I can access a hidden page with the following url http://192.168.1.1/setup.cgi?next_file=adsl_driver.htm

DSL Attenuation: 19.0 dB 13.0 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 14.6 dBm 7.1 dBm

I really doubt you have a 29db attenuation.
Check mine (IDM):
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20,0 / 32,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 29,0 / 34,5
Modulation: G.992.3 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 509 / 1.021
but what does this mean: Concentrator Name: HAMRA
dude 55db attenuation is almost outage ,or somehow vert poor, change the modulation and retry.

Probably the pppoe concentrator name.
this test is only for adsl users right? because i don't think i can do that with the mobi.

Yes, good enough.

Correct, only for ADSL modems;
plus mobi already sucks, no need for verification.
hold on partner i have adsl idm 512kb and the mobi, i prefered using the mobi more because it doesnt suck after 11pm at all.
IDM doesn't suck a lot... like others i mean. :(
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 34.1 36.9
Attenuation (dB): 6.0 0.6

Kareem, i am too far away from the DSLAM...like about 4km...
by some calculations, it seems that the highest speed i can ever get is 3923kbit/s(we won't reach that speed in Lebanon, anyways)
http://fremnet.net/article/216/adsl-the … calculator
thats mine (with down Attenuation=32):
Attainable Rate (ADSL1) – kbit/s
7891
Attainable Rate (ADSL2) – kbit/s
14914
Distance to exchange (Meters)
2317
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 16,5 / 26,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 29,5 / 34,5
According to the test posted by Belal :
Attainable Rate (ADSL1) – kbit/s 8000
Attainable Rate (ADSL2) – kbit/s 21525
Distance to exchange (Meters) 559
Yay my phone line is future-proof for several centuries in Lebanon.
I can't find this information on my Thomson Gateway for the life of me. Where is it ?

Login...broadband connection -> dsl connection -> details(up right corner)
& Aly, use this: Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 16,5 / 26,5 = 17359. :/
Yay my phone line is future-proof for several centuries in Lebanon.

Ah yeh my bad then my line is futur-proof for a century or two :(
why am i the only one with such a low attenuation ? :/
why am i the only one with such a low attenuation ? :/
inaccurate results ?
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 7.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.0 / 18.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 27.0 / 30.5
I am somehow between outstanding and excellent

weird, did try it more than once
SNR Margin (dB): 36.4 37.2
Attenuation (dB): 6.0 0.6
