HP laptop battery draining problem

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone of you faced this issue:
I bought a brand new laptop (HP 15 Ryzen 5) but its battery drains while on hibernation (not shutdown) of about 2% per hour, and as someone who have many sessions open at the same time, I prefer to close the lid (hibernate) and not shutdown everytime.
I didn't have this problem with previous laptops, apparently on hibernation it goes to a low power state (it should turn off completely). The reseller said a hibernation will behave like this and it is normal, and I tried many online tricks but still not working.

Any hint or previous experience will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Check if hybrid sleep is enabled:

Re: HP laptop battery draining problem

I don't have the option to "allow hybrid sleep".

I appreciate your help though, is there any option to submit this issue to HP so they might release a fix for it?

I'm not sure how you could contact HP to fix it, but I wouldn't bet on it much to be honest.

Can you try this? Does it show up in PowerShell?

Re: HP laptop battery draining problem

@yasamoka, I got the below, what do you think it means?

The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected
    Hibernate

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
    Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.

    Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.

    Standby (S3)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.

    Hybrid Sleep
        Standby (S3) is not available.

    Fast Startup
This action is disabled in the current system policy.

Make sure you have your drivers installed correctly

Re: HP laptop battery draining problem

the laptop is in sleep state and not in hibernation which consumes power to keep your ram and couple system chips running.
enable hibernation in windows and use it, by default it is disabled and only used by fast boot and incase of low battery shutdown

How did you conclude that this is sleep instead of hibernating?

I am not sure how to do that nor why windows not allowing it.
At this point, I am suspecting a hardware failure.

I did set all settings, I did set to "Hibernate" when the lid is closed.
I have no idea what I need to do next.

Thanks

Re: HP laptop battery draining problem

hibernation and power off states should be exactly the same only 1 or 2 voltage rails will be present so if the laptop is indeed hibernating it should have exactly same battery life and boot process as if it was shutdown.
if it is a hardware fault it should drain the battery while it is shutdown too.
