Is it normal to have an SN margin variant between 6db and 12db?

Not necessarily, you can go as low as 6dB. Even 3dB sometimes.

Re: SN Margin / ADSL

I have 6-7dB and I'm on VDSL.
No disconnections what so ever, speed reaches max 29-30mbps.
When on adsl, the margin goes up.

Before upgrading my connection from 1 mbps to fullspeed my snr was above 30db .

Now at fullspeed my snr is from 9 - 12.4 db and my speed varies from 4mbps to 6.

Is this because of the upgrade ?

I unplugged my router a couple of times but didn’t movie it .

Yes, if the speed goes up, snr margin goes down

Re: SN Margin / ADSL

Believe it or not, my SNR drops due to the elevator interference couldn't do anything even external (phone line) the interference is happening on the telephone box whenever the elevator works...

I read somewhere on this forum of the elevator effect ,maybe it was your post . I tried my elevator last week and it didn’t affect.

Thanks wollyka for clearing it up ,snr dropped 20 points so i fogured that the increase in bandwidth was a factor.

Hey OP, my SNR fluctuates between 6 and 11. Depending on if the building is on Generator or Gov Power. I also often get disconnects randomly.

I've investigated interference in my apartment/phone box, but the problem seems to be coming from outside the building as my speed almost doubles when the building Generator turns on.

I'm the guy who posted originally about the elevator issue. It seems to be quite common amongst people who have an inverter on the elevator.

Due to the issue I force my modem to sync at 4Mbps instead of 7-8Mbps.

Note that I personally tested it at the telephone box and there's no interference down there. The interference seems to happen on the higher floors.

The inverter is actually located on top of the elevator shaft, so that makes sense.  An EMI filter which is a requirement in a civilized country should be able to help.  I have issues with the elevator which was solved with the installation of external wiring, although a filter installed did provide some relief before that.
