PS4 Pro anyone?

Yesterday saw the reveal of the PS4 Pro, the upscaled version of the PS4 with improved CPU/GPU and 4K gaming support. It'll cost $399, a $100 more than the slim PS4 which will be the standard PS4 moving forward.

Personally, I don't see a reason to upgrade at this point. Unless games start to be significantly different and are much better off on the PS4 Pro, I wont think upgrading. In addition, I have a 1080p TV and the additional 4K support is useless for now.

So what do you guys think?

i dont think current ps4 owners need to upgrade. but future owners now have nice options. especially since the PS4 Pro price is very appealing.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

Technically not even the current 1080 OC that pushes 9 TFLOPS of Computational power cannot deliver 60fps @2160p (4K) for recent AAA Titles. Xbox  Scorpio has a GPU of roughly 6TFlops & Playtation Pro has roughly 4.2 Tflops. If their aim to push 30fps / medium settings at 4k that is possible for AAA titles but high quality settings will not be possible at even on 30fps and all Sony Games disclosed on the Playstation Pro were running @ 30fps. #MarketingHype  & still PC Gaming Rules. Also , not "real " 4K - Brute Force & Reconstructing Algorithms with no UHD  Blue Ray Drive.

How Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro does 4K without delivering 4K

http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/23527 … ivering-4k

For Current PS4 Owners - I do not think It worth the upgrade.

Plus to Get a Good HDR UHD TV say the entry HDR 7 Series in Samsung ~ USD 1500.

Maybe if you have a huge 4K TV.
But then if you want the best, cutting edge graphics you'd go PC.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

thats right. pc will always deliver the best graphics, no doubt. however a gaming pc that pushes 1080p60, 1440p or 4k, is going to expressive.
PS4 Pro will deliver a very good experience for the user that wants a step above current gen consoles, but does not want to break his bank account. think students, people on a budget, casual gamers... 399$ for 4k ( or 4k equivalent) plug and play gaming system sounds like a very good deal to me.

At USD399 +  A Good HDR 4K TV will pitch the investment and ironally the Xbox One (S Version) has a blue ray UHD Drive and the PS4 Pro Doesn't

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

Update:

Actually I changed my mind and I am interested in Getting a PlayStation Pro -  4K on the Pro will apply temporal filtering like the option in Rainbow Siege. 4k = 3840 × 2160 = 8,294,400 pixels divided by 2 = 4,147,200 pixels   and it will apply 2x MSAA. 2560×1440 =  3,686,400 pixels.  Technically the output is 4K but it is output of 4,147,200 pixels   with 2x MSAA which is a vast improvement over 1080p pixels count ( 1920 × 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels) or ((4,147,200 - 2,073,600)) / 2,073,600 = 1 × 100% = 100 % increase in pixels count over the regular 1080p.

2nd - I will be Getting a new television set and after reading a lot of reviews , I will be picking the Sony X800D , which is recommended by Rtings (http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usa … aming/best) as best affordable TV set for 4k HDR Gaming , knowing the addition of HDR @ 4K will increases input lag , and this model in particular registered about 30ms in 4k HDR , plus it has a true 10 bit panel - x800D features a wide color gamut. It covers almost all of the P3 space, which is great. When watching HDR content, colors are rich.

Overall it will be a great combination , + it has 4 HDMI two of them supports 4 K and HDR as such I will link the PC and PS4 Pro to it.

It depends what is your preference in labelling games as the best. The PS4 has a good number of exclusives like Bloodborne and Uncharted 4. Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War are also excellent prospective games. I have played for countless hours on my PS4 and the stuff that Naughty Dog developer has put out is one of the best games I have ever played. And you will never play these stuff on the PC (not until they release them on Playstation Now). Console gaming has its advantages when it comes to PC gaming and the same can also be said about PC gaming.

Either way, it depends on your preferences and which type of games do you like.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

The PS4 Pro is a very impressive piece of hardware in my opinion for a 400 USD release price tag , some updates released yesterday:

Two Future AMD Features Are Debuting in PS4 Pro; Watch Dogs 2 & Mass Effect Andromeda Run @1800P (3200×1800) which is a very nice boost compared to 1080p on the PS4. For 1080p  TVs owners they will benefit from 1080P with Super Sampling enabled. For more details refer to:

http://wccftech.com/two-future-amd-feat … run-1800p/

In a knot-shell, Sony is a company that knows what they are doing , and they do not release mediocre hardware -  like the Sony VR release that had dome negative skeptical talks before its release , but after release the Sony VR witnessed a pool of positive reviews from critics.  Finally the PS4 Pro features SATA III connectivity to its HDD , easy swap-able to SSD.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

The also announced that the PS4 has an extra 1 GB of RAM to handle application switching. This would free 512 MB of the GDDR5 RAM for developers to fiddle around with which is neat too.

But still, this will not convince me to buy just yet as ling as my original PS4 keeps on going and that games are playable on it. When games are not playable on it or start chugging along, I will make the switch then.

But I can understand the point of getting one from an enthusiast point of view.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

Sony Actually Nail it for a 400 USD console.

1440p (60 Fps) + HDR*
2160 p (30 Fps) + HDR
1080 (60 Fps) + HDR

Also upscaling from 1440p / 1880p to 2160p using checkerboard technique or native upscaling

*HDR: Depending on the Game Patch since HDR must be embedded in the coding

For 1080p screen Owners = Supersampling From 1440p & 2160p to 1080p.

Overall its a very good console for its price & much more versatile compared to the PS4 / PS4 Slim. To me it is a positive ROI especially with tmy  upcoming 55 Inch Samsung KS 9500 (End of this month). Sony Exclusives on 4K or 1440p with HDR on an Ultra Certified HDR TV is better than regular 1080p even Games on 1080p TV sets owners without HDR will look better due to supersampling that acts as an aggressive AA solution where the regular PS4 has many issues with jaggy edges.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

Sweet Spot of the Pro is 1440p , However 2160p = ~ 1.15 1800p which is a vast improvement on 4 x 1080p. Very capable machine for 400 USD (Just Released at Nino Yesterday for 545 USD (Console + One Controller Only which is a fair release price to Lebanon / I expect Package Offers with Additional Controller & A Game with a 600 USD range which is a good deal after a month)  . Note Iam a Computer Gamer Enthusiast But I will get the Pro along with Samsung KS 9500 55 inch (Flagship Led TV of the Year - UHD / Ultra Premium HDR1000 Certified ,Deep Blacks , Good Contrast , 1000nits of brightness in HDR Mode  , black levels 0.05 nits ) Good Input Lag on 4K HDR 60 HZ Gaming Mode , Quantum Dot Display , Wide Color Gamut , 10 Bit Color Reproduction etc... ) which shows the real potential on the console and enjoy full HDR Awesomeness   End of this Month.

It Simply Crushed the PS4 & for it is price/performance value very tempting compared to a minmum 1500 USD PCs.

1500$ PC?
Nop
You can mount an i5 + mobo +GTX 1070 + 16 DDR4 for only 900$
It's equal if not better in performance and you can upgrade the GPU anytime later

900 USD  is a bit rough estimation mate in Lebanon for the above specs with a decent PSU / Windows /KeyBoard /Mouse /OD / HDD /VAT

For us enthusiasts any Mid - High Range  Desktop destroys the PS4 Pro however for USD 500 (Leb Price) you are getting ~ 1070OC alone in Lebanon vs a Whole Solution with decent capabilities. For 4K /HDR TVs Owners PS4 Pro is a very good investment indeed.

Re: PS4 Pro anyone?

the number might be close to $1000-1200 gaming PC here in lebanon. still 2-3X more expensive than a PS4 Pro.
sony usually sells their consoles at a loss. Microsoft does the same. they make up the loss of the hardware in software sales.

Also a PC game in Lebanon costs 2000 to 6000LL if you know what I mean.
A PS4 game is 70 to 90$ so you will quickly reach the 400$ more for a PC
