edhunter Hello all, My Samsung s3 has been behaving crazy for some time now. For example it doesn't want to wake-up from screen lock, and it reboots on its own sporadically. Did some search on the net and there are other with the same problem and some suggested to flash the ROM with a new firmware, supposedly there is a problem with a particular build which is the one I have as well (XXEMA2). My concern is that, it may affect the IMEI code of the phone - as highlighted also in some forums. Thus do I dis-join the SIM and the phone first (by sending an SMS to MPT?) and then flash so that I can be able to use it afterwards whatever the IMEI code, or does backing up the root files and restoring them after the flashing would do the trick - supposedly nv_data files have the info on IMEI? any ideas? thanks, Ed
edhunter nuclearcat wroteIMEI usually burned permanently and cannot be changed. Yes, that's what is usually. Though some had their IMEI wiped-out after a flash: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s-all-things-root/249457-imei-number-has-changed-after-custom-firmware.html
edhunter yasamoka wroteYou need to backup your EFS partition so that you avoid losing your IMEI. Using the ktool app, am I covered on that? or there are other things?
edhunter Well everything went fine. The IMEI wasn't affected. For those who might experience the same problem with their S3, should follow the instructions in this article: http://simonkjones.com/2013/04/08/how-to-fix-a-samsung-galaxy-s3-on-o2-with-the-4-1-2-freeze-problem/
Zahix Happened to my S4, but the freezing happened totally random. I returned it to the shop. Did the new firmware fix it ?
edhunter Yes the flashing did stop the freeze/random restart/delayed wake up and it even performers better with battery consumption now.
