How to do these in After Effects?

I want to create a walking boy, but I don't want to show the legs taking steps. I just want to move the boy across the composite. The thing is, I want him moving in sort of an up and down wavy way.

I also want to know how to make a text move fast and then bump-stop like in cartoons.

Why use After Effect ? It's easier to do in Flash Professional..

Because I want to use video in it and eventually export to an HD video.

There's a software called Swish max, you can do the animation and export it to avi.. Check it out maybe it helps , there's also built in effects
