Is there a place in Lebanon that fixes the YLOD permanently? I heard of a lead soldering fix that is permanent so I was think if there was a shop that fixes mt PS3 I don't want to buy the slim yet.... any help would be great
My friend got the YLOD 1 year ago, he asked many shops in Beirut and Tripoli seeking for a solution, but eventually he ended up with a new PS3 slim because no one told him that the YLOD can be fixed.

About this lead soldering fix, I read about it on the internet that there's someone in America that is capable of fixing it using this method, but in his site he mentioned that this solution needs expensive equipment and can't be done by anyone, so I don't think you'll find a shop in Lebanon that fixes your PS3 sadly.
Once you get the YLOD, you'll get it again even if you fix it. You're much better off buying the new slim instead of scrambling around and paying to fix your old PS3.

My advice: fix the PS3 temporarily using the many techs found on youtube (simple stuff). Use the transfer feature to transfer all your saves and DLCs through the ethernet cable from the old YLOD PS3 to the new slim....
ok thanks a lot for the advice I will do that
17 days later
go to sony, and they will switch it for a new/fixed one (same model) for 220$

I did that today. It felt good having a new 60gb model alive :)

Goodness, thank you so much, i really thought that this wasn't possible to the the point that i never dared asking

at 220$ for a NEW PS3 its a bargain i'd say.

BTW, would this apply to an old 40GB which magically stopped reading discs after 3.0 update ? i will ask though about it / also PS3 isn't from Lebanon bas i guess i'll try

by the sounds of things, it seems sony could actually use or "bust" PS3's ; wonder if t hey put old parts in new consoles :S
when u go to the customer service dep.

they give you two choices, or you give them your ps3, they check it and then they bill you with the fixes they did.
or you can choose the second option which is switching ur ps3 to another (same model) on the spot.

In my case i had a YLOD and i know that the fixes are not permanent so i went with option 2.

They gave me a 3 months guarantee.

I don't think the ps3 they give you back is NEW. (they're not manufacturing fat models anymore!!!!)
so i guess they are refurbished models. clean, no scratches whatsoever, no dust, official wrapping.

When i had the YLOD i made my research and new ps3's prices were like that:
Nino: 320gb 2 controllers 3 games (1 of your choice) 470$
Najjar: 320gb 1 controller 0 games 410$ & 120gb 1 controller 0 games 360$
Khoury home & Virgin & the rest: Total crazy prices with 510+$

I went with the najjar offer 410$
and then fixed my old ps3 220$

Now i have 2. One CFW and one OFW :)
chosen2k, Where exactly is the Sony service center located?
@chosen2k:
Did they fix your broken PS3 or replace it?
I am asking because I want to know what happened with your original hard drive. Did they transfer/keep your data on the hard disk?
chosen2k wrotereplace. i kissed my data goodbye
Mmmmmm. So that's not an option for me. Guess I'll have to resurrect my PS3 in some way or form.

I fixed a YLOD in under an hour.

I disassembled the PS3, and used a hair dryer (séchoir) to heat the crucial areas so that things fuse back into place.

I put it back together and fired it up, and it's been working for 2 days now.

I got the PS3 for free since its owner threw it because it had a YLOD.
Yea I did the same man I fixed it myself but it won't work all the time it will get ylod again so I bought me a Slim
used the data transfer utility and saved my data thank god

yala guys happy FIXIN please DIY and don't send it somewhere or replace it directly
I am not surprised by such a solution. We have a printer at work which failed in only 3 months. I took the processor unit, put in the oven for 1-2 minutes, cooled it, and placed it back in the printer. The printer worked immediately. Hope I never put my PS3 in the oven to fix it :P
Ohh how I love my PC! Overheat? NO problem, remove cooler, apply thermal paste, wa2wa2, problem solved :D
