Internet Domains

On the internet, domains are distributed in a "first come, first served" fashion. This has created some funny battles over domain ownership, like:

peta.org: An organization entitled "People Eating Tasty Animals" obtained the peta.org domain name, much to the disgust of the better know People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. This domain name was suspended, but as of May 2000 the domain name was still registered in the name of People Eating Tasty Animals.

taiwan.com: The mainland China news organization Xinhua was allowed to register the domain name taiwan.com, much to the disgust of the government of Taiwan.

On a more serious note, it is not fair that all the domains consisting of english names (example: "travel-smart.com") are registered by people who buy domain to resell them at a higher price.

Re: Internet Domains

To a certain extent you are right, but then buying and reselling domains is a business within it's self and people make a living out of it.
