Why did I recieve a Whatsapp registration code notification?

Hi,

When I was trying to open Whatsapp the other day, a message appeared saying "Whatsapp Registration Code Requested". It said that Whatsapp registration code was requested for my phone number when obviously I wasn't the one who requested it. When I pressed OK it was working again as usual. 

Does anybody know why such a notification might appear? Is it a sign of some kind of scam someone was trying to pull? Has anyone experienced this before?

Most likely someone did typo.
But better to be on high alert and put 2nd factor (password protection)!
