printer for graphic design

hello
i am looking for a printer with excellent quality and able to handle heavier paper ( 120 grams per example ) and types ( like laminated or half laminated )
i dont need a photocopier but a a printer suitable for graphics and colors
what would you advise and where can i find it ? Lebanese salesmen thinks a good printer needs to cost 2000 $ .. yet they never heards of a canon pixma for example
