Can it be said that one of the differences between a human being and a computer is that the human being can measure how far his perception is from the truth, whereas a computer mainly can assert whether his "perception" (his model) is validated by reality or not.

Re: The topic for when there is nothing new

What a human being perceives as true is still subject to his own perception.
A computer can still know how inaccurate the model is, so you do get the same kind of fuzzy values a human being can get to, not only binary outcomes.

By "computer" you mean the physical device we all point to today and consider a computer? Or do you mean the idea of a computer? Because if it's the latter, you are a computer. Humans are computers. Computers are humans.

Re: The topic for when there is nothing new

How well do you know the Internet? Until two weeks ago, I thought I knew it pretty well. After all, I spend a good chunk of my day browsing Reddit and 4chan, and I’m always up-to-date with the latest memes and circle jerks. I’ve been a denizen of the internet since the early days of Fortune City pages and IRC channels, and a regular ever since.

Then, about a year ago, somebody introduced me to the “Shadow Web”—a sort of secret layer of the Internet that you will never find by Googling or looking up message boards. There are no “in links” from the surface web to the shadow web. And no, this isn’t the “deepnet”, in case you were thinking about that. Not some website with gore videos of freak accidents, I’ve seen those. I assure you this is something far more twisted.

I don't want to assert but this video included seems like a well written and played scenario.
I mean do ghosts really exist?

Another question would be, whatever this shadow web is, what kind of extraordinary violence does it contain, i mean what would be more brutal to human being than torture, slaughter, rape, Stuff we see everysingle day, on our TVs.

I don't think it's real, but the concept is the same as i2p, it's like another internet (I might be wrong). It's the place where there is no law or boundaries. so basically you can get your pedo porn and all that stuff from there.

That's the deep web, this video is claiming that this is something entirely different than the deep web.
Although I can't see why people are so surprised and can't believe this, I mean when you know that there are serial killers that have murdered hundreds of innocent people in gruesome ways even more disgusting than the one described in the video then why wouldn't you believe that someone did it and simply filmed it ? Not saying that this is 100% legit, but the concept is real as far as I know, yes sadly there are a lot of accounts of this happening (even in lebanon) and you can access it through the deep web, not sure why the OP created a new name for it and stuff, but yeah you can definitely find this stuff on the deep web if you look hard enough.

I completely agree with Elied. I don't think this particular story is legit, it seems like it's a really well written piece of fiction. However I do think there are some fucked up psychos out there, and I wouldn't be surprised that there's something as twisted as a live execution.

I'd like to dispel some myths there. AFAIK, there's nothing called "the Shadow Web". There is however something called the "Deeb Web". A lot of myths and fantasies have been written by clueless writers looking for drama about the deep web.

What's the deep web? It's the part of information on the web that is not indexed by search engines. For instance comments, tweets, private messages, ...

What's not the deep web? A gigantic black market out there where you can buy drugs and human lives for a fistful of bitcoins. That's just not true.

The deep web has been singled out because lawmakers seem to think that removing something from Google search results means it's removed from the Internet. Once they realized that there's very little they can do to control what's posted on the deep web, they called the space "lawless".

Note that it is possible to restrict access to your website, for instance by hosting it on the Tor network. That would hide your address from search engines. And yes, some of the websites doing this (I said some), are doing something illegal. But this has nothing to do with the "deep web".

The Deep Web is something we all visit multiple times a day. It's nothing to be afraid of.

That's not entirely true. Even though the first rule of the deep web is: Do not talk about the deep web outside the deep web but here's my story,

Two years ago I got hit by a car and my ankle tendons were ripped. I couldn't move for one month, so my days were full of free time and boredom. I was doing a research about pain killers side effects, which led me to a lot of drugs forums. It's there where I first read “silkroad”, deep web's black market(for all the junkies out there don’t be angry at me, silkroad is seized anyway). My curiosity pushed me to find a way to access that layer of the web. After about half an hour of research, I found the link and I downloaded the required software to access it.

The next day I called my friend and sent him to buy me some bitcoins through WU. I ordered a Backyard Brains SpikerBox from silkroad(it was like the only legal thing on the website), and guess what, it was delivered two weeks after. So you could've bought whatever you wanted from there.

Accessing the deep web is not as hard as you think, there is even a wiki for the deep web where you can find a lot of links(most of them are dead).

After spending a couple of days surfing the deep web, I learned that there is a deeper layer which is called the dark web. It’s the place where a sane person can find things he could've never imagined. It’s like an illustration of the Evil nature of humans. Even though the deep web introduced me to necrophilia, VORE, and was full of pedophiles, pedo, twisted and sick material but it was not enough for me.

The dark web was something else. It’s like the deep web is the place where people just talk and are full of shit but the dark web is the place where people actually do things. I never forget this day. It was the first time I cried as a grown man and stayed about 40 hours without eating(I know it sounds cheesy, and I don’t know if it was because all of the tramadol I was on). It’s not what I saw that made me feel this way. It’s the fear for my family members and loved ones from people I didn’t even imagine they exist.

The website was a forum where fucked up psych people discuss they’re preferred ways to torture and kill people. While scrolling and reading the most fucked up shit a human being can ever read, a user has posted two links. I clicked the first link. A dialog box popped out warning me that downloading material can help in exposing my identity. I clicked anyway. The video started by showing a man who tied a little naked girl to a table. Then this nice man puts a brick on the girl’s chest. Till then I wasn’t understanding what he was doing. Then after a couple of minutes he added another brick. The little girl started screaming and was having a hard time breathing. Every couple of minutes he added another brick. What was happening is that the little girls internal organs were getting crushed while she was still alive. I didn’t know if she died at the end because off suffocation or because of internal injuries. The other video was so fucked up, I can’t even talk about it. What scared me was that most of those fucked up people where intellectuals and very smart people.

After watching them I backed up my important files and wrote 0s on the entire hard disk to leave no trace of that shit.

Anyway you can find a lot of good and interesting subjects on the deep web and you can learn a lot about internet security from there.

Sorry for the long post.

@A.I.
Is it true that you saw that kind of a video,or you are just quoting an article /story from somewhere else like @tt400?

By the way, I have never heard about this "deep web"  you all speak of.
So out of curiosity yesterday I went and started surfing on it using tor.
And nothing, everything seems to be dead.
To be honest, I wanted to watch some of the freaky porn that everyone kept talking about.
Not for the enjoyment or pleasure of course lol  but out of extreme curiosity.
As I'm not a person who gets disgusted very easily,  I wanted to test myself.

It was a real video that I downloaded on my own computer. Most of the onion links you find on the normal web are dead. The really freaky things you are looking for are uploaded on servers that are shared exclusively between sick people and it's impossible to find or access them without an invitation. If you are looking for graphic content you can find a lot on BestGore.

PS: If I'm violating any rules please delete the posts.

@A.I I'm sorry, I think your post is just an extension for the previous story with more "fucked up" counts.
I mean, what would be worse than the stuff we live and we see everyday on our TVs...
P.S the website you linked to is indexed by google, check the infinite tags on each vid.

I don't think there is a reality tv show where you can watch parents raping their own children.
BestGore is a normal website, you can access it with any browser. I didn't say it's on the deep web.

Thanks for that. I've seen a few videos myself but they didn't phase me for too long. I've been on the internet far too long and I've noticed I just don't cringe anymore. Desensitization, born this way, or just apathetic, I don't know what it is, but that's just how I react. I don't think it's apathy because I do care about the victims and I do hate the people who perpetrate these crimes online, but there's another part of me that's come to accept it happens. Why cry over something if you don't have to and that thing is going to happen anyway? Maybe that's the thought process. The worst stuff I've been through is stumbling on child porn several times. I'm surprised the police haven't broken down my door yet. Maybe because I don't save the data.

I didn't believe this story either, but I definitely believe that real scenarios like it have happened and continue to happen to this day. We tend to forget how many layers society has and we always assume all that's happening is what we read of or see on the TV. Reality has a much grimmer face. It's sad.

On a different note, TOR has been compromised so don't rely on it as a 100 percent guarantee of keeping your actions private.

EDIT: I came back for this because I can't stress this enough. Block all scripts when you decide to go on an internet adventure.

Most of what you said was true, and the story is dramatized in an attempt to make it a little more interesting. I personally can't "accept it happens". Accepting it happens is the attitude that made killing people in the middle east, raping women in india and any sort of a bad behavior or action feel like a normal thing. You accept it because you think it will never happen to you or to a loved one, which is not true.

Forbidding all the scripts is the first thing you're advised to do before surfing through TOR which I used to do. Anyway I don't surf the deep web anymore and I always have more productive things to do. Plus you don't "stumble" on cp, you only find it if you're digging and looking for it.

I've seen gore videos (but not torture) on the Internet, stuff I'd rather not remember. It hurts you in a sensitive place, and I can only imagine what you felt after seeing this.

We grow up and pay taxes (exorbitant amounts in some countries) which get reinvested in paying inefficient bureaucracy, wars that cause even more suffering, and a "war on drugs" in which they try to keep us from growing and harvesting a type of PLANT. I could go on in on but I think I've made my point.

That's the human race. No system, laws, etc. will make the human being a better being, we just have to accept ourselves the way we are (with the good things as well!).

No, not at all. I accept it because I realize not everyone wants to conform to society's laws and norms. I don't have to relate something to my own circumstance or interests to react to it. You can react to something on a purely theoretical and abstract level, and that's what I'm doing.

Who accepts what? Not me, I guess.
Well there are different ways of coping I guess. Like it only happens to others. Or it's their fault, etc. In the end we need to live with it whether we like it or not. And since we're human, often we choose to be selfish, or just to live with the risk that it would happen to you or someone close to you. Or we just calculate, and decide that living with the risk makes more sense than dedicating time to change things.

You just never know what bad (and sometimes good) surprizes life hands to you.

But yeah, anyone can be a victim.

You're really missing the point. It's not about you, what you think or what you feel. It's not about me neither. It's about people who rape children. There is difference between knowing that no matter what it will still happen and accepting it. It's not like smoking hash or being gay. I understand that right and wrong is a relative thing, but it's not in this particular subject. Anyway when I see someone in danger I try anything I can do to help him, and in this case all I can do is to show some affection.

That was exactly my point. You were the one talking about it in relative terms. I know about it and accept it because I expect it. By saying I accept it doesn't mean I find the act acceptable. There's a big difference. I accept it in the sense that I concede it is a reality.

It makes perfect sense that if I was a pedophile that actively sought out child porn that I'd come on a forum and brag about it. I don't know how long you spent surfing through the deep web, but you can and will stumble on child porn if you go on a click fest. I've stumbled on child porn on the "normal internet" as well.

I misunderstood what you meant by the word "accept". Sorry for that. And I wasn't accusing you of being a pedophile haha! But from my experience cp didn't show up frequently on the surface. A lot of child modeling maybe(naked kids) but not cp. I know I was a drama queen, but I get too sensitive when it comes to helpless kids. I was very selfish in the past and I didn't care about anyone except myself. It was not what I saw on the deep web that changed me. It was a video that was recently shared on Facebook about Arab parents abusing their newborn child. I don't know why this one in particular but it trigged a sentiment that I have never felt before.
