[Guide] Upgrading TG585v7 to latest firmware (fix random restart)

For those with Thomson TG585v7 provided by most ISPs and having random restarts, follow this guide to fix issue:

Upgrading firmware to version 8.2.6.5 generic (region free):

download these 2 files:
http://download.modem-help.co.uk/mfcs-A … 10.zip.php
http://download.modem-help.co.uk/mfcs-A … bli.7z.php

you need to create an account on the site (top right corner), and you need to wait 24 hours after downloading first file or use another internet connection to download the second file (limit download 1 file per IP per day)

After downloading the files do the following,

Disconnect from the internet (open 192.168.1.254 (See note 1) and press disconnect)
Computer connection via ethernet on port #1
Switch off ALL firewalls
Switch off ALL Anti-Virus software
Set a fixed IP on the computer within your Gateway’s IP sub-net (See note 2)

Next, extract the files and follow this video starting from minute 2 (first 2 minutes explains how to download files for a TG585v7 designed for an ISP in UK)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-lq1zWZiQI (See note 3)

After finishing everything turn off the router for 5 min then turn it on (it will restart a lot if you don't do this step)

You don't have to reconfigure anything since all old configuration will be retained

Don't forget to UNDO the following steps:
Switch off ALL firewalls
Switch off ALL Anti-Virus software
Set a fixed IP on the computer within your Gateway’s IP sub-net (See note 2)

Open 192.168.1.254 with same username and password as before and press connect.

Tested on my TG585v7 router from IDM with original firmware version 7.4.2.7

Note 1: Default username and password when opening 192.168.1.254 is either 1 of the following:
"user" and "user"
"admin" and "admin"
"adminstrator" and blank
"admin" and blank
Users who got their routers from Ogero need a username and password with adminstrator privileges during the setup ("user" and "user" doesn't work since it gives lan_admin privileges). Try chosen2k 's post in this link http://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5637&p=3 to get adminstrator privileges username and password

Note 2: For Setting a fixed IP on the computer within your Gateway’s IP sub-net:
1) Go to Network and sharing center in control panel then change adapter settings
2) Right click on Local Area Connection (or your ethernet connection) and properties
3) Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and properties
4) Click on use the following IP address
5) Enter 192.168.1.68 for IP address (68 can be any number between 2 and 253)
6) Enter 255.255.255.0 for Subnet mask
7) Enter 192.168.1.254 for Default gateway
8) Press ok and ok
To undo this once you reach step 4, choose obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically and press ok twice

Note 3: Use the ZZ5YAA8.265.bli file from the second link when you reach the have disk step.
Also the unblock button in the video won't appear since the firewall is disabled on the PC

Re: [Guide] Upgrading TG585v7 to latest firmware (fix random restart)

Hi, I have this thomson modem that a friend gave me to test on my things but I can't configure it since I need the username and the password of the administrator not the user ones (username:user pass:user). Do you know how can I know or remove the logins of the modem?
I tried resetting it from the back of the modem but it didn't remove the username/password request and I created a topic here http://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=13505

Thats because you have a router from Ogero. I talked about it:

Users who got their routers from Ogero need a username and password with adminstrator privileges during the setup ("user" and "user" doesn't work since it gives lan_admin privileges). Try chosen2k 's post in this link http://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5637&p=3 to get adminstrator privileges username and password.

Other than chosen2k's post, I don't have another solution to get the adminstrator privileges.

@geekevo this username and password is not for Ogero router, its default for routers from  IDM and others but not ogero. Ogero routers default username and password are "user" and "user" but they give you lan_admin privileges (ie many options disabled including telnet, hardware reset and firmware upgrade)

Yes, chosen2k 's post in this link http://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5637&p=3 worked for me.
I sent them an e-mail and they replied the next day giving me the username that was the L****** number and the password wh****** the date the internet on this modem was set up.
Thanks.

If you can telnet the router, then use this guide: http://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5637&p=1 . If  you can't only solution is to contact Ogero like Truepeace did

Re: [Guide] Upgrading TG585v7 to latest firmware (fix random restart)

I have this problem and i want to update, can anyone confirm that the configuration file (the one you backup from 192.168.1.254) will work once updated.

Re: [Guide] Upgrading TG585v7 to latest firmware (fix random restart)

All configurations will be retained after the update (you don't have to backup the configuration). Either way, the backup should work and in case the backup doesn't work, I can help you with configuration.

Username and password of the router are different from L-number and 32 character password. Contact Ogero by email and they will give you the username and password of the router.

You don't need the username and password of the real administrator account to do the update following this method.

This is a dangerous way of doing this! Do it at your own risk, it worked for me with my TG585V7 on 7.4.4.7.

What you need:

1)Firmware:8.2.6.5 generic (region free) / Download
2)Software:tftpd32 v3.00 / Download
3)Ethernet Cable(Comes with the modem)
x)Your internet username and password (L****@ogeronet-***.com and a 32 character password), you need those to set-up your connection after the update. How to? (View Page Source If you're using chrome, and copy the value content of the password line)

Steps:
1)Connect your modem to your PC through Ethernet Cable (Put the cable in port #1), turn off all other devices connecting to the modem, and remove the phone line. Turn off all security (firewall, antivirus,...) during the update.
2)Rename the firmware from "ZZ5YAA8.265.bli.7z" to "Firmware.bin", when windows says this will change file type, click on yes.
Edit:
Sorry for this mistake, you should extract the "ZZ5YAA8.265.bli" file from inside the ZZ5YAA8.265.bli.7z, then rename it to "Firmware.bin".
3)Extract the tftpd32.300.zip to a New Folder, then move the "Firmware.bin" file to the same folder.
4)Right Click tftpd32.exe and select run as administrator, notice the Server interfaces drop menu.
5)Go to: Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center-->Change adapter settings
6)Right Click on Local Area Connection and click on properties.
7)Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and chose Properties.
8)Select "Use the following IP address":
IP address: <The address in "Server interfaces">
Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254 (What you use to access your modem settings page)
Click OK and Ignore the warning.
9)Re-open tftpd32 as administrator and go to the DHCP server tab, fill in the following:
IP pool starting address: 192.168.1.254
Size of pool: 1
Boot File: Firmware.bin
WINS/DNS Server: 0.0.0.0
Default router: 0.0.0.0
Mask: 255.0.0.0
Leave the rest, click on save.
10)Turn off the modem (through the black button in the back), and restart the program while your modem is off. You should get 127.x.x.x in the Server Interface.
11)Get a pin, press and hold the reset button, turn the modem back on while still holding the button.(Should start the modem in bootp mode)
12)Your modem power led should be orange, and the Ethernet led blinking green. Keep holding the reset button through the transfer process shown on screen.
13)When the firmware is on the modem, the Ethernet led will go off, and the power led will be orange. You can release the pin now, DON'T TURN OFF THE MODEM AT THIS TIME!
14)Wait for about a minute while the firmware is replaced, and the modem will restart with the new firmware installed. The wireless led will be red because the security will be turned off.
15)Reset the changes you made in the adapter settings. then follow Avo's topic to set-up your modem. How to configure any DSL Modem.

Best of luck thumbs-up-small-left.jpg
