  • I ordered a couple HDMI sockets from aliexpress, same as the one that was soldered on it the first time I repaired it. I'm gonna give it a try in the same way I did back then. If that doesn't repair it, or it ends up working for a couple weeks then die on me again, I'll try Sony.
If their charge turns out to be too high then buying a refurb or even a used console is more logical.

Anyway, thanks guys for your replies. Will let you know how things end up.

    Cheers

Don't know that shop, but will definitely look into it. Thanks for the info.
  • Thank you for the reply.
I'll leave this as a last resort in the hope that someone here might know a good repair shop.
  • Hey fellas,

For the short version skip to "Long story short,"
For the long version read on.

A while back, a couple pins inside the HDMI socket/port of my PS4 were broken, and the console was no longer outputting any video via HDMI.

I couldn't find any repair shop that had a replacement for the HDMI port (This was a couple months after the worldwide release of the PS4)

A guy I know who repairs PC motherboards and a soldering expert offered to try and repair it by replacing the PS4 HDMI socket with a generic HDMI socket. The console was only capable of playing video at 420p. 720p, 1080i and 1080p were out of the question.

So I ordered a PS4 compatible HDMI socket from Aliexpress, which came after a 50 long days. The same guy soldered it for me, and voila the PS4 outputs 1080p beautifully.

My joy lasted for a couple months. The console stopped outputting video again. However this time no pins are broken in the HDMI socket.
I took it to the same guy again, who checked all the soldering points and couldn't find any problems.

I decided to take it to a shop that sells consoles and co, and that does repair as well. This time around they had replacement sockets. I left it there and a couple of days later I checked with them, and the guy tells me the hdmi port is not damaged, it is the board.
To be honest I wasn't sold on that. It seemed as if he opened it up, checked that the socket is ok, and concluded it's the board.

    Long story short,

    My PS4 doesn't output video.

The HDMI socket was broken and I had it replaced once before.

It worked for a few months but then video stopped once again; however no pins are broken in the HDMI socket.

I am looking for a trustworthy repair shop anywhere in Leb whom I can trust with my PS4.

    Would appreciate any input.

    Cheers.
  • ZeRaW wroteI am already rooted, but from the comments it seems for 2.3.0 and not above.
It seems he doesn't have a working standalone version for 2.3.3.. I wish I had a Nexus S, I could've tried it on. You could always downgrade to 2.3. But the most stable way is to download the whole ROM from ardroid (which according to the creator is functioning well).

  • ZeRaW wroteHi Eli, I am on stock 2.3.3 Nexus S, and ardoid does not list the version they just say "gingerbread" but there are several versions.
When I was on 2.3.2 and tried to use ardoid it made my phone freeze and had to restore.
This is the link for the Nexus S running Gingerbread:

Before installing it you must to have your phone rooted

Here's the link for the instruction on how to root your Nexus S. Be careful though, if this is your first time it might not be very easy. However if you follow the guide step by step you'll be alright.

    - First you need to be rooted (permroot) and S-off

    - You need to have Clockwork Mod (I highly recommend a backup before arabizing)

    - Download the file above

    - Mount your sdcard and copy the file gb_cm7_rc3_desire_arabic_android_plus_signed.zip to the root of your sdcard

    - Install the zip via Clockwork Mod

    - Reboot and you're good to go :)

  • Sorry folks I was just being literal and sarcastic here..

    Now seriously,

    A brief bio:

I am a 25 year old guy originally from North-Leb but been living in beirut for over 4 years now. I received a BS in Economics from Balamand University; gathered a two-year-experience packaged from working at the operations department of one of Lebanon's poor banks (they all are); and now I'm doing my Masters in Financial Economics at AUB.

    My Geeky origins:

I remember it all started, when I was like 5, with an Atari 2600 console brought to me as a gift on b-day. After months of online gaming on it—plz ignore the sarcasm from time to time—I took it apart and tried to invent a device that would, instead of controlling digital characters, would control reality.
Then on, my love affair with every single device containing a circuit board began.

What am I interested in the most (tech stuff):

Of course like most of you here, what made me realize I am a tech junkie was the arrival of the desktop computer. I taught myself how to use it; I f**cked up a couple of them; bricked others; but only through doing that I was able to learn so much on the DOS and WINDOWS OS.

(I'm not going to bore anymore with the detail, I'll to be quick)
In 1994, we installed our first internet modem reaching speeds of 10 up/10 down (Mbps of course) . I had my share of chatting and porn browsing (don't judge me! you know you all did it). Actually I wouldn't call it porn; it was naked women with words like "JOIN NOW" hiding the parts I went in to see in the first place.
Then came the Internet Relay Chat (IRC). That was when I fell in love with the internet.

    Hacking:

I learned the concept of hacking via IRC. At first it was mainly messing around with other people's nicknames and accounts via planting a backdoor and controlling it via /CTCP commands. Then I upgraded to trojans and other backdoors such as SubSeven (don't give me the ethical crap, it is the most slightly harmless fun you could get). Of course LINUX was the next big step ;)

    Today:

With all the new responsibilities I have today, it is becoming harder and harder to keep up with the superfast advances in the tech world. However, I still get my daily tech fix.
Mobile technology is what I follow most these days. Also, I'm always and forever trying to increase my coding knowledge by reading books and online references.

I hope I haven't been too boring. This is was my geeky bio in brief. I'm glad I stumbled upon this forum. I hope to contribute my share to it; I'm sure it'd be heaps of fun :)
  • Navigon is a good offline GPS app for Android. However, they still haven't released a version compatible with Gingerbread. So in case you have upgraded from Froyo2.2 to Gingerbread2.3 (or considering it), just keep in mind that you wouldn't be able to use Navigon YET!
