Could it be a defensive strategy in the patent war?

Motorolla has a lot of patents (14 000) and they mostly deal with phones, chips and embedded devices. After the Nortel events, maybe Google wants to protect itself as much as possible.

On the other hand, 12.5 billion dollars is not something you unlock in 2 days. They must have been planning this buy for at least 6 months ...

It says that RIM and Nokia shares are rising, and Google's lost 3% then recovered them.
