Hi guys,
My friend got a 1TB seagate external hdd, but runs a mac. Im a total apple noob so help me out on this one. After googling a bit, I get it, OS X can't write on NTFS format, but I couldnt understand to which type should i format the external HDD.
My concern : I read somewhere that FAT is bad for large Hdds ...
And would the Mac OS Extended be READ on Windows ? (not a nessecity at all, im just curious)
So which type should I format it to ?
Thanks in advance :)

Mac does not write NTFS volumes by default, but there is a solution for that. Paragon NTFS for Mac is an application that extends Mac supported formats. It adds NTFS write capabilities; though it is not a free application. If you search, you might find a free application that offers the same functionality (I do remember Apple itself offers that app). HFS+ partitions can be available as read partitions in Windows when you install Bootcamp 3.1 or later.

I don't know about the "Mac OS extended", but Windows can read and write FAT32.
The only limitation (apart from a messy fragmenting) is that FAT32 cannot process files larger than 4GB.

you can use "/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app" to create two separate partitions with different filesystems.
