Just as the topic states, (a spinoff from other thread).
there are pro/cons to using sudo/su/etc.
there have been lots of opinions (and lots of negligence) in regards to the topic that i thought it would be good if people would answer the following:
- do you use sudo and how and what for
- what you perceive to be a technical limitation with sudo and are you 100% sure of that (give examples)
- what type of sudo configuration do you have?
- what hacks have you done with sudo?
- etc
proners
a hack with sudo.
The wwwroot directory is owned by "_www" web user so i have to be careful not execute scripts or commands under other credentials as it might break permissions which leads to typing endlessly 'sudo -u "_www" php etcera'
So i made this simple trick in my bash profile
alias php="sudo -u \"_www\" php"
general thoughts about sudo
sudo is a well thought out implementation. altough locking down the system security with sudo can be pain even for experienced sysadmins
