Hi everyone,

My router has been driving me crazy lately. Ogero's maintenance guy said that my router needs to be replaced if it keeps disconnecting randomly. So, what brand among those provided by Ogero should I be getting? Currently I have a D-Link.
Personally, I prefer to buy my own router and use it along with the cheap basic modem they provide. The advantage of this is that you get to pick any router you want and can easily upgrade in the future.
Man i had the worst experience with D-link it drove me crazy, they are recommending Tp link as a cheap good performance mid range equipment
Cisco Linksys are currently the best in the market. I have the E1000 Wireless Router and I couldn't have been any happier.

Is it provided by Ogero, or should I buy it from the market? And in case I did the latter, I need to drop by Ogero's offices so they could configure it for me, right?
Do you already have a working modem? If you do, set it up to "pass-through" and then you enter your credentials on the router. No further setup is needed on the router since the modem is already configured.

By the way, from my experience (currently using the 610n), the Linksys routers have terrible ranges. In addition, it regularly overheats and it also emits this weird smell (like burning plastic).

From multiple reviews I have read, Netgear routers seem to be the best in terms of overall performance and features.

I have no idea since I do not live in Lebanon at the moment. I was just suggesting the best brand should you have choices to pick from.
Cisco LinkSys routers are great but expensive. i have a WRT-120N, never had any problems with it and i update it regularly through the website. Also i used the 24/7 support(chat) but to tell you the truth they were not helpful i ended up solving my problem.

What Xserver is talking about the E1000 is a router not a modem which your ISP provides you, i doubt any ISP providing Cisco modems in Lebanon because they are really expensive.

Buy a router that is capable DD-WRT, you can uncap, and get banned...

Seriously, buy a Linux based router, else, a compatible one.
get a simultaneous dual band router, that way you can use 5ghz band for your compatible devices reducing interference, and the 2.4 band will be used for non 5ghz compatible devices. also make sure the router uses Broadcom platform so you can DD-WRT and and use it as wireless bridge late on if you want.

Linksys E4200 is bit expansive but will do the job
I hate ogero back in 2008 we bought a d-Link modem which was the first time internet access was available to my home. Anyway, if you've noticed that they modified the modem by disabling the reset button and pasting a paper about the residents and etc. So when i removed the plastic paper which looks like it was NOT placed by d-link the reset button didn't work. SO yeah f*** ogero and its bs system. Iam now a happy sodetel user and everything is accessible. You should NEVER EVER register with ogero.
^a couple of months ago I Sent an e-mail to an ogero employee and i got my router's admin user and pass the very 2nd day(thanks to one of the members here for the e-mail/instructions)

Atheros chipsets, and others too, can run DD-WRT...just be careful of compatibility problems with devices running one or the other since Atheros and Broadcom are "like North Korea and South Korea". They talk the same language, live on the same island, but don't agree at all.

So if your devices are dominantly Atheros, and there seem to be compatibility problems with this device / router etc... then choose Atheros. If Broadcom, then choose broadcom.

TP-Link TL-WR1043ND is a powerful router. It broadcasts at higher dbm than stated in its specs but according to few (if I'm not mistaken) doesn't state it's more, to stay within legal limits. It also lacks channel 13 in the firmware (maybe only Australian releases) due to Australia banning channel 13, it has only up till channel 11.

I'm hopefully gonna get one and run DD-WRT, or OpenWRT on it. Some say DD-WRT has wireless stability and range (I think) issues, while OpenWRT is much more stable and flexible, but of course harder to work with.

Ok so could we get this settled, which router should I buy... Now I cannot decide whether I should be getting Cisco Linksys E4200 or TP-Link TL-WR1043ND... :)
Of course note that neither your choices supports DSL connections...they are just routers. Keep us informed what decision you make. And where are you going to get the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND from? I would like to know that too. I'm gonna pounce on it like a tiger once I find one :D

The Cisco Linksys is a really nice competitor though. It's definitely superior in quality, etc...but don't know about range. Anyways if you're going to run custom firmware, of course hardware is what matters, and not the factory firmware / associated stability issues / features. TP-Link is the ultimate router for those on a medium budget, I guess.
