do you have a source or is that from experience?
Dude, don't buy seagate expansion. Just check their reviews online and you'll know what I'm talking about. Especially the old versions. Don't know so much about the new USB3.0 generation (not necessarily usb 3.0, but the wave of new ext. HDDs that were the first to support USB3, ie GoFlex gen).
From personal experience, I would stick with Western Digital. I own around 5 WD hard drives and none have failed yet. I had a couple of failures with Seagate on the other hand.
I was lucky, i got one for $100, WD, with power, thnx
yes..
don't get NEAR seagate
i lost my data lots of times because of them.Since that i'v been using western digital and iv been nothing but happy with them.
but i also have to say...i find that seagate drives run faster than ANY hardrives on the market.
for example my friend has an average 500GB Barracuda 16MB cache drive and i got a WD Caviar Black 1TB 64MB cache drive and the seagate beat mine (and mine is built for performance)(the seagate was built for everyday computing and not performance)
SO, bottom line is that :
WD = More Reliable for data ,a BIT slow
Seagate = Fast but not that Reliable for valuble data
don't get NEAR seagate

Yes, but WD came up with the raptors, which were king of performance back then...what did Seagate do?AvoK95 wroteyes..

Seagates also release a LOT, and I mean a LOT, of heat. Compared to Samsung Spinpoint F1 drives, for example, they run 8-10C hotter.
