dav wrotemost of the world is on symmetrical fiber optics broadband connections and we still use the adsl standards....enough to explain our situation....we are veryyy far away from other countries

edit: i see that minister boutros harb didnt had enough to stop going forward... he ruined what nicolas sehnaoui started...
Very sad really. Yesterday Etisalat upgraded my Internet speed at home for free. 10Mbps to 20Mbps. Never had to complain about performance issues ever. Such a relief really.

Corruption in Lebanon, will it ever end?

Today I noticed that my modem started syncing on ADSL2+ after being on ADSL1 for more than a year.
I was expecting the max rate to increase but it only got worse (was 8Mbps now is 6 to 8), and the SNR is dropping between 11 and 6.

I tried re-syncing on ADSL1 (G.DMT) but apparently it got much worse, I could only get 3.5Mbps out of my 4.

I concur

Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.185 / 23.388 xD

But ya ret it will be applied. lol

What modem do you use? What firmware? And did you update it?
I'm asking cause I don't have the max rate thingy.

How do you get those speed guys?!

BTW i don't have a phone line, and can't have. The building doesn't have any landline box and i applied like 3 years ago and no one contacted me yet.
My neighbor in facing building advised me to not get DSL anyways coz it's so slow!

I'm on cable now! Paying 25$ for unlimited 1mpbs (FUP like hell in the day; no FUP from 12am to 12pm).
i am the opposite...lol... i got removed after 1 year subscription from adsl2+ and put back to g.dmt even though i can get the 4 mbps on both ways... my stats on adsl2+ were 1.3mbps up and 16mbps down... now on g.dmt i'm at 1.2mbps up and 7.4-8.4 mbps down.... however i haven't noticed any change in ping or quality of service... does anyone know who to contact to put me back on adsl2+?
What I noticed about ping is that it increased by 10 to 20ms after the switch to ADSL2+. I thought it had to do with the interleaving mode, so I switched to ADSL1 again (which only has fast mode as far as I know), but nothing changed. Not too bad, still acceptable for gaming.
I would really like to know how you guys manage to see what your max rate is. If it's just a firmware upgrade, then which and how would be amazing to know as well. I'd be grateful if I could get some help.

I don't know if it's possible on your modem. But you can still get an estimate using online calculators. I tested your stats (downstream attenuation) on these three tools and the estimates were around 2.5Mbps (for ADSL2 and ADSL2+).

Note however that the max speed doesn't mean that it's attainable. Even though my modem shows up to 8Mbps max rate, Sodetel turned down my request to upgrade.

it’s because your snr will drop like hell when you upgrade the speed... around 5db for each mb...and you should maintain an snr margin > 15db after the upgrade so you don’t get disconnected frequently...

Yep, that's right. That's why I wondered why these calculators don't ask for the SNR margin, because my max rate varies slightly depending on the current SNR margin.

My SNR margin is usually around 10 - 11dB. Sometimes it drops to 6 but the CRC errors counter skyrockets.

yepp 6db is low... 10-11 db is acceptable... will lag in bad weather or some other circumstances... i prefer to stay above 15db to be on the very safe side... i'm at 25db and i have the 4mbps plan... this means i can get the 6mbps at max..

Are you facing unusual high ping and lag while playing? I noticed it this weekend with my Terranet DSL but with an Ogero dsl it was fine. I called Terranet they said many are calling complaining about that and it is because of high traffic at the centrales.. And today also on the Ogero dsl I had 300-400-500 ping.. (playing Smite)

The ministry is planning on lowering internet prices!!
Source:boutros harb's facebook page.
Thats a very good thing if they are serious about it.

But where are the new speeds? Internet content has been getting bigger and bigger in size. With more HD content and streaming services gaining traction around the world, staying at the current speeds would lag Lebanon even far behind (although I can't see where can we go even more behind than what we are at right now)

And with decreasing prices, more people would want to use the ADSL service which will put more strain on the network. Its already barely keeping up, if at all, to the demand of the current users.
