Laptops used in Universities in Lebanon

I am going to AUB this fall semester and I don't know which laptop to pick , so any AUB students help will be appreciated .
I have narrowed down my choices to Macbook pro 13''/macbook white and Dell inspiron n5010
I really want to try the Macbook for the first time , but I'm not sure about the compatibility and If I am going to have any problems using it in uni and If it is supported enough in Lebanon. I am majoring in biology by the way.
What do you guys think? I am going to buy it from Istyle in front of AUB , are there any other re-sellers which are better? I don't live in Lebanon that's why I am asking . Thanks a bunch guys!

What's up with the thought that when you enter university, you need a laptop ? That's absolutely not true.

I say go ahead with the 13" MBP but make sure you buy Office 2011 for Mac along with it. That will ease your compatibility problems with other PC users.

If you expect that you will need heavy Arabic compatibility then consider setting up bootcamp or go with the Dell. Until now, Office for Mac has poor Arabic support. I don't know about AUB but in my university, Mac users are growing and we even have plans for a fully Mac computer lab.

The right question would be. Why would you need AUB students to answer your question ? Do they use special computers?

Why do you need a laptop? get an android tablet or iPad.

One thing that SHOCKED me about the MacBook Pro is its touch pad! This thing is literally amazing! I have my touch-pad de-activated on my Sony Vaio and I cannot remember how I could re-activate it but I'm cool with that because I will NEVER want to do so.

Also, I liked the fact that it's very easy to place processes and/or windows in other desktops and easily navigate through them.

Now back to the topic at hand, yes you can get a MacBook to use it in AUB premises and you shouldn't worry about in-compatibility issues. A Mac is still a computer in case you did not know that :)

BeirutBoy specified for AUB students since each college uses its own software. So an AUB student would know the requirements.

One of my clients is an AUB student and he's a HUGE Apple fan. Everything he got is made by Apple, and he has no issues using his gadgets at AUB.

As long as your laptop has a wifi adapter, anything will do.

Not like you need specially tailored settings/software in order to get access to the university's internet.

Get the mac, believe me it's so freakin worth it. Mac Lion OSX coming out soon; the features are incredible. Maximum reliability; Windows can't even get close to what is offered in Mac Lion.

There is a laptop fair at AUB each year. I'm pretty sure you'll get a better deal if you wait till then.

I am not buying a new laptop just because I am going to Uni , My current laptop's screen is broken , and there are horizontal and vertical lines all over it , and fixing it would cost as much as a new laptop would cost or at least half the price , So i might as well get a new one.

And when I specified AUB , I wasn't discriminating , It's just that I have never lived in Lebanon and don't know how things work there, I thought each University in Leb is different , so I apologize if you got me wrong .

Same opinion, go for the mac ! Incredible OS, "the best Touchpad in the world of laptops", up to 10 hours of battery life, Inte core i5/i7 sandy bridge CPUs and more!! If you ever needed to use applications not available for mac such as Visual Studio, you can install Windows 7 in a VM.
