It would be really helpful if someone explained how does the mobile operator connect you to the mobile internet (WAP)
Basically the mobile WAP device is attached to the mobile network such as GSM, CDMA, etc. This then dials the modem which is attached to a dial-in server i.e. RAS, or Remote Access Service. This server gives the WAP device access to the protocols it needs. These are the same lower level protocols as a normal Internet Service Provider will give you. We call this the PPP or Point-to-Point Protocol.

These protocols are used to access the next step in the chain, which is the WAP gateway. The WAP gateway is the link between the wireless and the wired world, basically giving the WAP device or the mobile phone the access to the common internet.
EddieEC wroteOkay so basically if we all used google, then lebgeeks should cease to exist. Yasamoka if you don't want to answer, don't comment at all. No offence intended, but this is becoming an annoyance.
Ok guys I'm sorry if I offended anybody. I'm not targeting this question in particular. But recently, many questions have cropped up that can be answered with a single search. I have answered each and every question asked, by the way. But the problem is this: some questions like: is there a PS3 emulator on PC? can simply be searched on google. If there is no proper answer on google, then how can WE give a proper answer?

The purpose of this forum is not to answer questions like yahoo! answers. It is to discuss a topic, to delve into it, and for all of us to learn from the question and from the answers. Just simply look at the topics most members have opened up. They are far from silly.

@Hussam: check this out: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=how+does+WAP+work&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=1&biw=1920&bih=893

2nd, I apoogized to khalil13 for not reading his first question. I did not consider his question as silly. Though if you look at this google search, an answer is 1 click away. Heck, there are even diagrams. Even though I did apologize, he thought he could take the opportunity to bite.

I think even Samer agrees we should SEARCH first. Then whatever we come up with, we can link to. And then the confusion would go away.

@Khalil13: look at this: http://inspiredbloggers.blogspot.com/2004/12/how-does-wap-work.html

This explains why I saw it absurd to connect "directly" to the internet.

Let's keep this forum professional and refined. Let's not drag it down.
