hello :)
i need these few computer stuff that i can't find anywhere! i was wondering if any of you know a reseller?

1-arctic silver 5
2- pc fan controllers
3- 12cm PWM fans for pc
4-LM1084IT-ADJ transistor

i tried budjikian next to khoury home for the transistor but they don't have it :\
if anyone knows any place that have ANY of these, please do tell!

Check Katranji's website for the fans, controller and transistor (www.ekt2.com). Right now I'm using the internet on my phone, when I get home I'll check out the transistor's datasheet and recommend an equivalent if available.

Ok, so the LM1084IT-ADJ is not a transistor, but a voltage regulator, a 5A low dropout positive voltage regulator with an adjustable regulated output voltage to be exact. Unfortunately, Katranji doesn't have it (the problem not only resides within the high current rating but the adjustable voltage terminal that usually is available as a ground reference for other voltage regulators: for normal voltage regulators the output voltage at the second terminal would be constant; for the case or the LM1084IT-ADJ, it is variant). A good equivalent is the LM338T, so check Boujikian for it (Katranji has it too).

On the other hand, if you want the regulator used in the original design, RS Online, a shop found on Tallet El-Khayat, just after the gas station across Concord cinema Hamra, can order it for you from UK. Just give Hussam, the shop owner, the reference number RS 533-9347 (link here).

The circuit you're trying to build is a multiple DC fan controller, so why do you need the PC fan controllers?

Do you mean 12V PWM fans? If so, Katranji has all sizes starting from 2.5x2.5x1 cm fans to 9x9x2.5 cm fans (check here).

im going to buy a fan controller for my pc, those ones have several fan channels also they look good, the one im building is only one channel, its more of a project thing i wanna do :) who knows maybe ill build and sell them if people ask for some :P
as for the fan, yes a 12v pwm(4 wires) fan which is 12cm in size, such as this one

Katranji doesn't seem to have a 12cm one, also can you tell me more about Katranji? is it a retailer shop in lebanon? is it like pcandparts.com that ships products across the country?

I have the Sunbeam Rheobus 4-channel controller which cost me $15.00 on sale.

I still designed my own controller using simulation software (TI Multisim), but I did not end up building it since I bought one for cheaper.

If you like such projects, but parts are not available, download Multisim, learn it and enjoy the huge list of parts it has and the easy interface.

@shant: Katranji is much like Boujikian (an electronics shop) but it's the biggest and most renowned in Lebanon (literally speaking, people from all over come to it to buy electronics). Sometimes other electronic shops recommend going there when they don't have what you ask for :)

If the fan controller is just for experimenting, why are you being picky about the size of the fan?

i have lots of 12v dc fans at home i can experiment with,but the ones i have aren't pwm, the 12cm pwm i want to buy is going to be used as a second fan on my contac 29 heatsink

Ohhhh, well you can check regular computer stores if they have them.

Arctic silver 5 has been superceded by a lot of other names. Its merely a famous name that used to be the best. Now you have arctic mx-3 and mx-4 which are better. Shin etsu and OCZ freeze have been rated as the best, except for liquid metal thermal compounds such as gallium. That one can knock like 5-8C off the CPU temp compared to the best thermal compounds. It can also eat up aluminum if your cooler's base is aluminum and not copper (usually nickel plated). Almost all, if not all coolers nowadays come with copper bases. Another point is that it's really tough to remove. According to what I remember, some users have yanked the CPU out of the socket with the cooler :P

Arctic silver 5 requires set-in / curation period, close to 200 hours if I'm not mistaken. So temperatures for the first few days are a bit off.

Some conduct electricity while others don't. If I'm not mistaken, arctic silver 5 does, and the mx-4 doesn't. Beware of that too.

My recommendation: don't bother too much with thermal paste. Get a brand, of course, but the gook that comes with the cooler is usually fine enough. If you're overclocking, it simply makes sense only if you're reaching a new record. If you're that picky, it makes sense too to have 2 delta 3000+ RPM fans in push pull on that cooler. But its a teeny weeny noisy :P

yes i know the mx4 is lot better but only artic silver 5 comes in 12 grams...yes set in time does suck, but since arctic silver 5 is famous there must be someone who has heard it and is selling it....so would be greatfull if anyone has arctic mx4 or arctic silver 5 or any other good thermal paste that give same results as arctic silver or mx4...
