Microsoft wroteToday’s demonstration followed our announcements earlier this year about Windows 8 running on System on a Chip (SoC) processors
That's what
really makes Windows 8 interesting. They've got that thing running on ARM processors and it looks like they're moving in the embedded direction.
As for the interface, it's pretty, it's the kind of interface my grandma would be comfortable using. I don't know if you can get a lot of work done with it, but as long as you can toggle between the "classic" and new interfaces, I don't see a problem.
Microsoft wroteFast launching of apps from a tile-based Start screen, which replaces the Windows Start menu with a customizable, scalable full-screen view of apps.
Live tiles with notifications, showing always up-to-date information from your apps.
Fluid, natural switching between running apps.
Really, Microsoft, it's OK to call them
programs or
applications, you don't have to make it hip and cool by calling them
apps. I won't judge you, I promise!
