  • YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

Well there is microcity near LAU if you need the system desperately soon. I also recommend 3owayni computers at salim slem opposite to Bank Audi. These shops, in addition to Pc and Parts, have the best branded computer parts you'll ever see in Lebanon. Though, there is 1 more shop opposite to Microcity; they sell EVGA and Thermaltake hardware (dont know the shop name yet), hopefully will pass by soon and see what they have (I did pass once; window shopping :P ; and saw the Thermaltake ToughPower 1200watt PSU in year 2008; that PSU was not found anywhere in Lebanon yet but the shop had it)

Xterm, do not force yourself to buy hardware according to what's found in the market; a real tough lesson I learned. If you want something, do not satisfy with less. If you want to search for the ultimate hardware for your rig, I'm more than happy to help. Actually I will call Microcity and 3owayni computers and see what GTX580 they have in stock.
There is a store with the a better caliber then Pc and parts called Quantum Store 3ala 3aysha bakar. The only down side that is that they don't have a website yet and they don't have a list of what they have in store. I visited Quantum store and I was extremely impressed with what they have, top notch hardware and brands.
xterm, this might be too late, but for a gtx 580 you'll only need a 600w psu, might I recomend the:
Thermaltake W0355RE Litepower 600W $79.00 z-38
its 600w and if you check it out, you'll see that it has an efficiency of 70%
so 600w * 70%=420w and thats the minimum
now for the gtx 580 it has a power concumption of:
# System in IDLE = 175W
# System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 382W
link
thats the msi gtx 580
I couldnt find one with the asus,
but heres another one with the inno3d gtx 580:
# System in IDLE = 180W
# System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 413W
link
I think it should be good enough,
unless you're going to overclock it (which you dont need to...)

EDIT: I found a test with the asus gtx 580, it needs 384.2 watts overclocked,... link
Quantum is just ridiculous. Their prices are similar to Virgin. Total rip off.

800 watts is better. Remember that a PSU has an efficiency rate that does not exceed 85% (unless 85% certified). Such PSU might give something like real 700 watts.
Yeah I recommend 700W at least to start with...definitely you'll seek to overclock the system...so consider that it will spend 450-500W under max load. 500 / 0.7 = 714W. Overclocking the GTX 580 without overvolting will not really increase the wattage much. An overclock of 25% (i dont think you can go THAT far on a top-end card) will make the card consume 250W * 1.25 = 312W. The Core i7, overclocked, would consume maybe 30-40% higher power. 95W * 1.4 = 133W (This is less than the power consumed by the CPU used in the Guru3D power tests, which Nemesis linked to -- they use a Core i7 965 @ 3.75GHz). SO you're really good to go with a 700-750W power supply. 850W+ for future proofing, though don't pay through the roof for something you'll be able to buy for half the price a few years later, and with higher efficiency / smaller form factor.
if it is up to me , i will recommand AMD graphics card ( opening NVIDIA VS AMD WAR ) :D
There's no reason to go for a gfx card wars, I've been an avid nvidia user for too long (starting with voodoo and dual voodoo 2)
Go fix your drivers first, then we will consider getting AMD cards :P

Seriously? Last time I checked (around a month ago) his prices were almost the same as pc and parts.

I'd recommend an AMD graphics as well.

You don't know any better :P.

800W refers to the max sustained DC output and not power drawn at the wall. The power efficiency is the efficiency in AC to DC conversion. Meaning, 85% (let's say) of the power drawn at the wall (AC) is converted into electricity and 15% into heat. This means that, if the power supply were to output 800W, this constitutes 85% of electricity drawn at the wall. 800W / 0.85 = 940W drawn at the wall.

Efficiency helps decrease your electricity bills, makes the PSU cooler, thus quieter (doesn't have to spin up much). It has no correlation whatsoever to the output power.

EDIT: hey, xterm, pcandparts has a special offer for an Asus GTX 560 Ti at $315.

This is the card:

Thanks yasamoka, but I'll be waiting for the 580. Meanwhile Ill just prepare everything with a low end card.
Hahaha sorry I got mixed up between topics. There's another guy who's building his own system too and is trying to go for a mid-high end card for like 300 dollars :D
Project Shitnux - ETA: Friday or Saturday.

Stupid delivery delays :(
I'm going to have to live with EVGA Geforce GT430 1GB DDR3 for 2 weeks :(
Hey xterm where do you live? If you're close to Hamra, you can pass by and I can lend you a GeForce 6200 TurboCache for the time being. In the 2 weeks, enjoy overclocking the CPU, RAM, etc... then when you get the GFX unleash its power :) Also, don't forget to start downloading the Drivers! It really pinches when you have to wait a whole day for something to be functional / performing as expected.

By the way, what board are you getting? I REALLY recommend you don't get the Intel one.

This should help you with the GTX 580: http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/890903-nvidia-gtx-500-series-owners-club.html#post11671528
Yasamoka, it's too late :-( I already ordered the parts and yes its the intel one.

Thanks for the gfx, but it's ok, the 430 should do fine for the first two weeks.

You're right, I should start downloading the latest drivers.
下午好!/ 晚上好

That's what i read >.>, but this looks great!
MrClass wroteGo fix your drivers first, then we will consider getting AMD cards :P
oh come on man , you dont know something else ?

drivers are becoming very good day after day , and i am not experiencing any issues with them :P

also EYEFINETY is the future of gaming believe me

and when i know that NVIDIA 2D SURROUND ( like eyefinety ) needs your card to be paired in SLI with another because one nvida card connot handle more than 2 displayes , I would say WAY TO GO AMD , one card supporting 3 displays without any decrease in performance

more than that the 3D surround is a joke to spend 1500 $ + , inorder to enable it and finally you get a very bad performance if the card are not high end card ( in 2-way to 3-way sli )

not to mention the bad 400 series which increased the tempreture of the planet earth , helping global warming :p
and the succesive AMD 5000 series with its cheap prices and wonderfull power , and the hd 5970

also the bad GTX 590

correct me if I AM WRONG !

:D

Nyaha!

I might be able to intercept the Aramex delivery and pick it up myself today!
